You are asking for too much ( said he, remarking in jest ). Grass requires water, and ground means no housing. A single rugby/football ground can accomodate 7-8 cricket games at the same time..so that would be a difficult proposition. If you get a chance, go watch what happens in parade grounds in secunderabad any day.

I think it will be hard for you to find co-ed teams , if you are coming here for work, check with your corporate HR person. Check YMCA, they play basketball, or atleast have a court. i would say universities might be your best bet, as they may contain some foreign students who form up teams and play (mostly africans here), but that might not work out either given the current tensions in the osmania university in hyderabad.

Sorry, we don't seem to be evolved enough to accomodate your request. May be you could start an expat league

I checked some web sites. and here are the links...mostly not useful

You could check the sceduled events in hyderabad using this website.

Searching for something, i came across this old thread..don't think there are any recommendations, just talking..

I have seen some good soccer grounds in the military area, but they don't let civilians play. The armymen play on sunday mornings sometimes, either soccer or field hockey.

by the way, are you coming here to stay? I would put some more search effort if this is a long term commitment.

Adam0121

firstly thankyou for all your replies & the links

I loved your initual reply i think you missed noticing i am an english female & although here granted there are many woman (me not being 1 of them) like to participate in more physical sports such as rugby i think the local aunty's might dissaprove of this 27yr old white woman scrumming with a bunch of locals

Trust me i was under no illusion when i wrote that as to what the odds are against there being an area even big enough for such sports being freely available, & a grass pitch would be like an oasis in the dessert i know,

however i have seen many places in & around Hyd where with a little imagionation & some clever planning (i.e working around tree's & the odd cow) you can play most sports...i was asking specificly about rugby as you realy need a fairly safe ground to fall (well to be thrown onto) & i thought someone may know of some place that might be alittle more suited then those i already knew of,

I know i have been to some realy nice resorts that have sports facilitys, others may know of places closer to the city or maybe even better ideas

I passed the links to my boyfriend (he's a little more cutout for these types of sports then me ) he will look into them, thanks for your help i had'nt come across these groups or anything, we didnt even know they had them in Hyd

you should learn to ignore the local "aunties" as you term them, if you want to have any fun at all.

I did note your place and sex as well, hence the reference to co-ed teams. finding all-women teams is much harder...but finding co-ed teams is sometimes easier..

I did read the rest of your message, but i think if you have a team, you can play anywhere, no problem. you can always agree on how physical the game's going to get, and kick the folks who don't follow the laid-out rules.

It is getting a like-minded group that you are going to have a problem with. the locals are not that inclined to play gentle with you..as we have very few co-ed teams for anything..it is almost always all-boys/men, or all-girls/women.

I can only tell you that i would be very happy to know that you found something to suit you, and if you let me know where you are playing, i will promise to come there with a case of local beer, cold or warm is your preference. and might even rope in some other IMers as well. Not to play, mind you, just to watch. we could do a long-due hyderabad IM meet-up...

I hope just for my sake, others would pipe up and give you more information...

Good luck.
