Lightbulb Moving to Hyderabad, need information!

Hi all IM users, I'm a 21 year old lad moving to Hyderabad in June for an IT job in HiTec City. As I will be new to this city I need help regarding anything that I might need to take care of.
For starters I need to know how difficult is it to find a house for rent on sharing basis in Madhapur/Kondapur or the Hi Tec City area.
How is the city for living for a person who doesn't know Telugu, i.e. is Hyderabad overall a good city to live in? Will it be comfortable living in the above said areas?
Is Hyderabad as cosmopolitan as Bangalore? What kind of crowds can one expect at say a night out at a pub?
I've heard Hyderabad is a conservative city? So as a guy what do I need to take care of?
How is the overall culture in the city? Is it modern or orthodox?

Apart from that please feel free to share any info you might find useful for a new resident in the city!
Thank You!

PG, Hostels are easy to come by in the area you are looking at. To find a shared apartment, you will have to go through contacts (activate your college friends and also through work place based contacts).

I live here since the past 25 years and I do not know a single word of Telegu. The area you are looking it is a big melting pot of techies from across the globe (just not only India).

Hyderabad is much more tolerant and open minded compared to Bangalore though people are conservative but pubs are not the place where you will bump into the conservative types.

Do exactly what you would do in any place in the world. Never offend any local for their culture/ritual/style.

Pretty modern with orthodox mixed in.

I guess, you already know that many Gujju's are extremely orthodox and many are broad minded. Same applies here. Just as Ahmedabad has all sorts, so does Hyderabad. We even have an old city just like Ahmedabad and also a Gujju Lane and many outlets specialising in Gujju food.

Thank you traveller for the quick response...
Any idea what would the rent be in Madhapur/Kondapur for 1/2 BHK apartment?

Yes, I have been living in Ahmedabad for a long time and it is true, Ahmedabad is also overall conservative. Well to be true, I don't crave for gujju food for I don't like it (also I'm not a gujju)! I'm looking forward to trying Hyderabadi cuisine!

Hy K,

I moved to Hyderabad a few months ago from Canada and it's been pretty good so far. The food is great, Paradise biryani is very good.
I have a friend in Madhapur and IIRC he said the rent for his serviced and furnished 1BHK was quite reasonable. I'll ask him the details.

From my western point of view Hyderabad is conservative but not overly so. There are lots of very nice clubs and bars that can match anything in North America and the young people are just as fun-loving. The only constraint I've felt so far concerns dating Indian women.
I am just learning Hindi and I've found people here very accommodating. I haven't been anywhere else in India so I can't offer comparison but if you're a Hindi speaker you'll have no problem.

Oh yes, dating Indian women is a problem for most of Indian men too
Well it's their culture, we can't help it!
