sorry if this is a repeat, but i don't think anyone mentioned it...

the birla mandir temple (on the hill overlooking the hussain sagar) is definitely romantic, especially at dusk on a clear day... when that beautiful pinky orange hyderabad light sort of 'lights up' the marble. also, it has a fantastic view. well worth a visit.

Its a matter of opinion that makes for horse races but I find the Birla temples oddly spiritless, like eating clean, white rice only for every meal. Lets all hope to buy our way into religious favor. Loved all the new restaurant suggestions. Can't wait..

Hi
I'm staying in Hyderabad since last 2 years and newly married. Here's how we spend our weekends

1> driving in our car in areas around hussain sagar, himayat sagar, charminar and old city, bombay road etc.

2> himayat sagar on weekend evenings - less crowded, lots of fresh air

3> golconda fort - need to be physically fit though

4> spend time in many new malls that have come up

5> resturants -
(a) Palace Heights in ABIDS - very good view of Hyderabad
(b)Firangi Pani in City Centre - recently opened
(c) Malgudi, recently opened branch near Tolichowki - good south indian non-veg food
(d)Four Sesons near Rethibowli - good biryani
(e)Zaitoon near Masab Tank - Mehdipatnam - run by Jordanian, good Arbic food
~Khak~

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do....... Explore. Dream. Discover.

Palace Heights

Yes, Palace Heights in Abids was another place that I liked, both for the food and for the view. My only negative memory of the place was ordering garlic nan --- it was full of raw garlic :-/ Not at all what we were expecting. I must admit that the person who took the order warned us about it, but we were just too brash.

Raghu.

Finjan - tea bar in Hyderabad

There is an excellent tea bar near Tolichowki - FINJAN. If you love tea (even little bit), you must visit this place. You get tea from all over the world.

I wonder why they set up the shop at Tolichowki.....

Hi, I'm an Aussie living in Hyderabad the last 2 years. Here are my tips:

Romantic Restaurants:

Zaffraan Exotica - rooftop restaurant, Rd No.12 Banjara Hills (next to Organic Shop 24 Lettered Mantra). Indoor/Outdoor(covered if raining) lovely outdoor Japanese setting, good North-Western Frontier food (as usual!!). No. 1 for atmosphere both in day and night.

Taj Krishna Sunday brunch - Rd No.1 Banjarra Hills(set price alcohol included)- purely because outdoor area (elevated with views, ponds and lawn and trees and umbrella tables)is best spot to sip on Chardonnays and munch on BBQ prawns at noon on a Sunday in Hyderabad.

Novotel - Hitec City - Beers/cocktails by the pool plus swimming and Saturday BBQ. Nice open space for 5 star hotel, huge pool with chairs and umbrellas. Go Saturday afternoon for drinks and swim before eating at the Sat night BBQ. Set price.

Nice Places to walk:

1. KBR Park (Jubilee Hills) inside path 3.2km, outside path 5.3km. Inside - wild bush, outside - lovely groomed path separated from road by trees. Good for bit of exercise, fresh air and peace. Not too well lit at night in places but very safe (except for ankles). Open 4.40 - 8.30 AM, and 4.30 - 10PM. Can also get ice cream and sit at various lawns along the way.

2. Golconda Fort - lovely walking and views of all Hyderabad. Absolute best early in the morning when it first opens (plus no traffic on the way).

Romantic Activities:

Couples Spa at Lattitudes Gym - Rd No. 36 Jubilee Hills. Expensive in local terms, but well worth the money for a special treat. Masseurs are top quality. Manicures and Pedicures (come on boys, you need pedicures more than the ladies) are excellent and again, good for a special treat for out-of-towners. Single and Couples rooms.

Reading over this now I realise it sounds a bit 5-star, but I was just thinking of special treats. There is lots to do for cheap in Hyderabad (especially good eating - like Chutneys as already mentioned).

Wow thanks Anna for all your valuable information. I think this time when I go to Hyderabad--2 weeks! I plan to print a copy of your suggestions! Thank you especially the couples Spa treatments/massage oooh la la ... and my hubby needs a manicure badly!

No offense to the poster about Chutney's restaurant being romantic, I mean come on! Are you kidding me? I dont know whats romantic about that restaurant, the food is excellent though. Anyways to each his own. My respect though..

Great to see a women's prospective here..

Several good resorts in the out-skirts come to my mind -

Aalankrita - http://hydepages.com/aalankrita/
Pragati Resorts - http://goindia.about.com/od/wheretostay/gr/pragati.htm
Dream Valley - http://www.dreamvalleygroup.com/html...eam-valley.htm

While visiting places in the city, make sure you have a bomb disposal squad at your disposal and watch out for crashing fly-overs.

I tried Exotica last night - the setting is nice, and the food was excellent. I live nearby but never even realized it was there; somehow I thought it was just a night club/bar kind of place.

But - no coffee, or even tea, as part of dessert?!? What's that about?

-- Jerry
Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

Can a male receive a massage from a female here? I would love to do something like this with my husband but he refuses to get a rub down by another guy - just won't do it
