Hyderabad not a major destination?

LoL....just out of curiosity, how come Hyderabad is not listed in the major destinations section? I thought it was the IT capital of India? Isn't AP usually called the "kohinoor" of India?

Mods.....y'all may wanna add it in there for those that wanna really experience all of India, cuz I don't think any1 could know south India very well just by visiting Banglore or Chennai, cuz Hyderabad is very much different from them.

greetings, ignite! welcome to indiamike!

there are a number of factors that go into determining what is considered a major destination for tourist purposes, which is how we are organized here. true, hyderabad may have its own claims to fame, as do many other cities in india not regarded "major destinations." however, our organization of the forums is generally consistent with the tourist circuits as laid out in most guidebooks.

thanks for making the suggestion, though. it's always good to hear from the members. inasmuch as you are brand new to the site, please take a look around - i'm sure you'll find much to enjoy here!

all best and, again, welcome to indiamike!

One of the things I liked best about Hyderabad was that I saw so few fellow Westerners! It's a wonderful city with lots of charm, and I didn't feel a need to "see" any of the IT businesses -- the Old City is much more intersting.

I wouldn't consider IT a criterion for being a major tourist destination - after all Bangalore is the main IT centre in India and it's worth a day at most- IMHO as ITers say.
Hyderabad, however, is one of my favourite cities -superb ambience, monuments, museums, Golconda Fort, best food in India esp for meat eaters. And as wonderwomanusa points out- a dearth of foreign tourists.
DON'T MISS IT!!!!!

There are a zillion "major" destinations in India for specific industries, skills, or activities. However, Hyderabad is not a major tourist destination. But then nor is Bangalore.

Indiamike.com is really organized by major "tourist" destinations? I think being organized by major "expat" destinations is something you really should look at as well. Ton's of expats in HYD and it's growing daily.

Count me as someone who would like to see IM.com make HYD a major desitnation!

VP.

Welcome to today's biggest non-topic.

There is a heap of work for the guy who owns this site and those of us who help moderate it.

Sometimes we get around to reorganisations, new forums, etc.

Maybe this one can be put on the list.

That would make it number 3,452,678 on the list of things to do for the site for me .

In all seriousness though, there is a reorg of the site and forums coming, and I'll keep this in mind.
