Hi Hal,
No that is not my idea of "budget" hotel. I guess I am just used to the 300-400 rupee night room. Max 500. Higher if a/c is included. Clean,TV, private bathroom. I guess I am just to prices of hotels in smaller cities, towns....Hyderabad must suffer from inflated room rates due to it being a high tech city. Thank you for replying....I was having problems posting this question on a main thread. Tina |

300/400 rupee rooms will be more easily found around the station areas. Won't be very clean at all.

Does anyone know if there is a curfew time with the pre-paid airport taxis, or do they operate 24 hours?

They operate late into the night if there's a flight coming in. I've got them at 2am. The fare is 15%? more after 11pm, I think.

Thanks Hal and Capt.. The flight I'm looking at arrives around midnight, so it would be around 1.00 am -I'm guessing - before I'd be looking for transport. After the thriller prepaid taxi experiences of my last two late arrivals (Chennai, Kolkata), I'm delighted to read your mention of a shuttle bus Capt., and a bit surprised that it would be still operating in the early hours of the morning - ie. so used to Sydney with its 11 pm curfew, it's always a delightful surprise to find transport after late arrivals. I was looking at the shuttle bus stops in Hyderabad, thinking the College stop would be suitable. But then as you also mentioned I would still need to arrange the ongoing transport to the hotel.. perhaps staying at an upper range hotel would be the way to organise the hotel pickup?

I don't know if a hotel will pick up from the new airport, it is quite a long distance away. But a real high end hotel just might.
The shuttle buses will run every half hour or hour except at very odd hours, when they run hourly. 150 rupees. Volvo, comfortable. Tickets can be bought within the airport or just at the exit- do confirm the bus is going where you want to go. There are three stops, Begumpet, Secunderabad and Charminar (to the best of my knowledge. Am sure about Begumpet and Secunderabad) College stop? Did not understand. A taxi is safe enough, by the way. It is just that the airport is well outside the city (40km or so) and the roads will be deserted for part of the way. If you prefer more specific details depending on where you are going and prefer not to make info public, PM me. |

Sorry not College stop, I just remember seeing the college near it at the time. It would be Charminar. Some very helpful information Capt.. Unfortunately, going to waste, as are those highly tempting daily drops in flight prices. Haven't seen prices like these since the early 1990s! I say unfortunately because I've just been "grounded", my adult daughters are not keen for me to travel during this swine flu thing .... got to love them.

Ah, information for others, then.
(Btw, am quite sure about the Charminar stop too, they told me on the phone and I think I saw the bus at the airport once) |

Oh. Didn't know that.
The Begumpet bus passes Mehdipatnam too. Anybody can get down there, but getting on to go to the airport will probably be a problem. |

That is indeed not something to worry about. Hyderabad does have radio taxis and the folks over in Hyd are exceptionally decent (take that from a Delhiie). There is really no value in the shuttle bus unless it goes where you want it to be. Airport pickupby hotel would be ideal but would be quite expensive. Of course, I am assuming you have a working phone. You can insist on the following: a. Your driver to contact your hotel staff and explain in advance the route he will take - and take confirmation. Make sure they take his number, call him back on that. b. He will NOT take the ORR - outer ring road - he needs to stick to the main NH7 only. c. If you have GPS, ask him to follow that route only. That is anyways a good investment - even if by BT GPS. Cheers

More information on the shuttle service from the official website- note the timings:
http://hyderabad.aero/services/aero_express.html What it doesn't say and what I found out from them on the phone: -The Charminar bus passes the Zoo and goes to Charminar. (Some say the whole city is a zoo. ) -The way the buses are routed, no bus actually passes Koti/Abids/Narayanguda. To go there, one has to take the Charminar bus and get down at Charminar OR one could take the Begumpet or Secunderabad or Mehdipatnam bus and get down at Mehdipatnam. The first option (Charminar bus) will be shorter and faster. PS: The '25 km from Begumpet' elsewhere on the site is hogwash. Closer to 37. and this page with some maps may be useful http://hyderabad.aero/services/route_maps.html |

Has anyone used the Radio Taxis listed here ==> EasyCabs or Meru Cabs. Wondering if they are available readily outside, or does one need to call their listed numbers. ![]() |

Have used those taxis, they are reliable. Easily available outside the airport- neat queue as soon as you exit, no hassles at all.
Buses will stop en route whenever you want them to, many people disembark en route at convenient locations. There is no need for a passenger to know the routes in detail, really, just where the buses will end up and what, if any, is a convenient place to hop off, depending on final destination. |
