Genovese Basil for the picking

Hello All,

I'm new to this forum but I've lurked (and laughed) quite a bit on IM.

Here's my unusual request. I'm going on a trip to visit my in-laws in Tamil Nadu and I've a TONNE of beautiful basil on my terrace garden upstairs. I would love to have someone or some people (preferably who appreciate lovely sweet basil as much as I do but that's pushing it) come by and pick as much as they'd like for home use. (not commercial, thank you very much, I've already had some people strip a lovely curry leaf tree down to bare branches)

The reason why I'm offering is because I'm leaving tomorrow for a week and the basil has begun to flower and I know my maid won't do such a good job of watering them and my freezer is full anyway and I don't want the plants to die and go to waste. Whew.

Anyone interested? I'm not asking for any money or anything. Just be punctual and early morning (8 am to 10 am) picking is required.

If you've any interesting edible plants to spare, those would be welcome too.. after I come back

Cheers,

Huda

Moreover, I think the basil loses (much of) its taste once it flowers. The plants won't go to waste as such. I think it's like that with most herbs.

So, er, come take your pickings, folks Have a pesto-making session!

Hey, someone replied.. woo hoo. I've already left but if they're still alive when I come back, anyone is still welcome to as much as they like.

Macha, in my experience basil actually becomes stronger in flavor and fragrance once it flowers. I actually began to use less leaves in making my pesto because it had begun to overpower the rest of the ingredients.

Thanks for the rallying effort though Appreciate it.

Ah, if only I were there... (Does your basil grow in say Jan./Feb.? Intend to be over again, you see. Well, what region precisely is a little early to say )

--> But found H'bad most pleasant really. & Stupidly missed the Golkonda Fort even! So, yes, one has to return, doesn't one. The good folks there not the least of my reasons.

Cool

yep, just transplanted some of them into the backyard. they'll be growing all year round hopefully. And if you go to assam instead of hyderabad, give me a shout out, i'm trying to get the seeds of the hottest chilli in the world they grow in Assam, the Bhut Jalakia (Ghost chilli, although literally translated it means Bhut = Ghost Jalakia = burned and went) which is so much funnier.
