Expressway to Airport

Does any one know the status of the expressway from Banjara Hills area to the airport. It was scheduled to be completed by March or April this year. The key part was the connector from the expressway to NH 7.

I was wondering this too.... But is a new date set? Will it be any time soon or you can never tell?

Recently visited Hyderabad. The expressway is nearly done except for a section of 100 meters. Work was going on briskly. It was announced that it will be open on Oct 2, 2009. And with no rains except for the last 10 days, there should not be any excuses.

However knowing the Congress government expect a delay of about a month of two. Should be completely open by years end.

Simultaneously they are building the ORR towards HiTech city. According to local sources this should be ready in about a year.

An update on the expressway. It is scheduled to be open by mid October 2009 !!! I thought it will be delayed further.

However now MIM is threatening to disrupt traffic since it is named after PV Narasimha Rao. I always know MIM is up to no good for the city and I dont know why people in the older sections of the city keep voting for this idiotic political party.

I read this morning in TOI that the expressway has been ready since the 2nd of October but it hasn't opened yet because they can't agree on the name. I guess without a proper dedication, it won't work properly!

Guess what finally opened?! Ten minutes to the airport rather than 45 I hear. Largest flyover in Asia.

It officially opened on Oct 19th, despite MIM's objections.

10 minutes to the airport from where ??

From Road No. 1/Masab Tank area to NH7 would be about 10 to 15 minutes on the PV Narasimha Rao expressway and then about 15 minutes to the airport on NH7 and airport road.

The flyover is 11.663 km long and is the longest elevated expressway in India.

It starts at Sarojini Eye Hospital in Masab Tank / Mehdipatnam and ends at Aramghar junction onto NH 7 (the Hyderabad-Bangalore Highway).

Travel time on the flyover is 15 minutes and the speed limit is 60 kmph (some parts have 40 kmph).

By going on the flyover one can save 10-15 minutes travel time and avoid all jay walkers, traffic junctions, traffic signals and the crowds.

It was inaugurated on 19th October 2009 in the evening.

Used it for the first time yesterday. Saved about 15 minutes - a trip to the airport would take me 50 mins earlier, it was now 35 each way. That was because wife was in the car, else 30 would be easy.

No two or three wheelers or trucks allowed. Unsure about buses- never saw any, but don't their Volvo airport shuttles use them?

No exits, traffic lights throughout the length. Just rumble strips at two or three places, which seem to be slightly narrower and the concrete 'walls' still to be completed. (Its steel barricaded now, so I assume so)

Very sparse traffic, by any standards, which is unique in India.
