Best place to change money in Hyderabad?

Hi all. I will be in Hyderabad later this month and some of my concerns are:

Where is the best place to change US dollars and pounds?

How much should I change at the airport? (please note my flight arrive at 5:05pm on the 25th) so I will need cash for taxi and to run me for the next morning

Are pickpockets common in Hyderabad?

Thanks all!!!

Change money at a bank or moneychanger. Hyderabad is not as geared as Delhi or Mumbai for foreign tourists, so a little bit of legwork may ensue.

Which part of Hyd will you be in?

At the airport, enough for cab and a day or two expenses, I think.

Pickpockets dunno, but I am careful and have never been pickpocketed.

There are ATMs all over the place so a debit card is useful. No need to carry much cash.
The only time I got pickpocketed in Hyderabad was at an IndiaMike meetup. I think it was billyshake.

Dunno about moneychangers there, maybe others can help.

There are quite a few banks there, though. Walk in with passport and enquire.

There is a Thomas Cook where you can change money in that big round building in Hi Tech. What's it called, can anybody help?

They offer reasonable rates but you will need to take your passport and other documents with you as they are sticklers for this and won't change your money otherwise...

The airport offers pretty poor exchange rates but it is convenient - when i last went through I think it they were offering 68 as compared 71.5 - so depends upon how much care about a few percent verses convenience.

I expect you can get somewhere closer to Gatchibowli but remember the banks close early

There is an ICICI bank in kondapur(opposite jayabheri) which definitely does forex. Its about 5 mins drive from gachibowli crossing.

When I came to Hyderabad I tried to exchange cash at ICIC bank but not successful. They say that they can change money and put it on my Indian bank account only (that I haven't) and transaction will take a few days...
Finally, I went to a branch of Thomas Cook located at Cybertower (mentioned by MTWB) and changed there without problems, they just asked me to show my passPorT and that's all.

There's also another branch of Thomas Cook in Saifabad.

I initially exchanged money in Travelex then, later, in Thomas Cook. Thomas Cook has pretty good exchange rate. Don't believe in what others (like Travelex or the hotel you're staying in) say that their rate is the best and they get it from Thomas Cook.
