Hi Folks,

Would appreciate recommendations for places a bit away from the city where my girlfriend and I can spend some quality time together.

We are not planning to stay over and want to come back by the same evening. I've heard a lot about Vikarabad which is around 80 Kms. from Gachibowli and is a beautiful drive. Is that a good place to go?

We are not looking for any accommodation, just a place where we can simply chat and enjoy the nature, without being hounded by unwanted elements and Police. A good restaurant to have lunch on the way would do nicely.

Any other places you'd suggest.

Appreciate your suggestions. Thanks!

Vicarabad

Vicarabad is a nice drive in the monsoon. Me and a few friends did a bike ride to this place and thoroughly enjoyed it. There are a few resorts and dhabas along the way. And Anantagiri, near Vicarabad has a temple. You could find cheap accommodation around the temple.

Unfortunately, there aren't many getaways for a weekends' outing. Would like to hear about them from members of the group.

So, we actually went to Vikarabad last week .

The drive as we had heard was excellent, with good roads, lush vegetation all round and amazing weather. We went till Ananthagiri Temple and had lunch at a small restaurant opposite to it.

We really wanted to get down at a huge and very scenic round-about and just walk but the whole area was secluded and I felt a bit uneasy!

Came a km. back and drove into the Haritha resort (run by AP Tourism). We were not interested in taking an accommodation, but the guy at the reception was generous enough to allow us to just roam around in the resort. The estate is very decent with grass banks, an amphitheater, a bar cum restaurant, a swimming pool with a great view and a kiddies play area.

The view from the outer peripheral of the resort was amazing, with greenery and a railway track with some trains plying every few hours that made it even more beautiful!

Came back past midnight with good memories of the place and the moments we spent together.

We took the Mehdipatnam route to reach Vikarabad and back. I didn't check the Odo but the place is around 67 kms from here (Mehdipatnam).

If you plan on going there, try to come back by early evening as a lot of trucks ply on those roads at night. There are quite a few resorts on the way .

Overall, Vikarabad is an excellent weekend getaway with a lot to do there. You can have picnics, bike rides, camps in open skies, indulge in adventure activities or just laze around

For a next trip, I'd advise to pick up Outlook Traveller's Weekend Breaks from Hyderabad, http://traveller.outlookindia.com/bookhome.aspx. Good series, and easily available on the ground.

Be advised however that even locals (and in keeping with what Vjeltz says) have advised me there just isn't so much to do in the vicinity, and so they found this title not particularly inspiring. I'd still check it out, though

Their other "Weekend" titles and despite that name, btw, would easily cover several full holidays, so it's not just about short breaks, and not just in the immediate vicinity, either.
