Trains:

All the horn sounds of a diesel loco,
Two tone horn signature of a WAM 4 on shunting
The notching up of a diesel Alco (Chug Chug Chug Chug Chug
The sound of Chennai MG suburban train motor (now extinct)
Sound of wheels of a carriage jumping over the gaps on the rails..
Sounds of the wheels changing tracks at points...
The ubiquitous bell (a small piece of rail) at small stations...
The sound made by Indian Railways coach fans midnight when it is silent all over.

The jackals outside the clubhouse at the Tollygunge in Kolkatta, just after night falls. It sounds like all the demons in hell, screaming and giggling - seriously scary. It sends a shiver down my spine just thinking about it.

I imagine that's nothing at all like British Football fans?

But, seriously... The sound of street dogs in the night

Those early morning sounds of someone in the bathroom next door!
or the bunk opposite you on the train!

the boy selling coffee on the trains,

the constant horning in the streets

the blandishments of street sellers - 'you shop only here madam', 'madam, madam, this way' 'madam, you are only coming in here.'

a troop of monkeys on the roof of the toilet, trapping you inside

the disembodied, shrill, nasal prerecorded announcers voice at nizamuddin station, broadcasting every 10 minutes or so, all night, and always as you are just about to drop off

The fisherman in Kerala when pulling in their nets on the beach!

The lads shouting "Poom Poom" and beating the sea water with their elbows to stop the catch of fish escaping the sides of the nets close to shore.
