| No, it's the so called mango rain. A couple of days in April, but doesn't happen every year.

Well, I was told this is when the mangos get really juicy, and that they are best after the mango rain.

I think you are right. I recall that the mango tree flowers early to late january and a rainshower will cause the flowers to drop before they reach the fruiting stage. A rain now when the fruit is formed will make the fruit juicier as it helps the tree to gain extra moisture. Ah for some mangoes now.....

When using the local train to commute in Bombay I can't read the station signs - But I know that my stop is two stations after the pong from Bandra Creek. And you can tell when you pass a station because of the urine pong. Indian men must drink about 10 gallons of water a day ..... they are always taking a leak!

In my humble opinion, India is the best country I have been to for all 5 senses and because of this can really turn our switch back on for us blunted British. The smells on a long train journy are pretty special and then there's the station at the end. Hoping to go back in the monsoon this year - that should be something else! Love and peace.

The fragrance of frying spices in the afternoon, or bins of spices in the bazaar. Dung fires in the morning. And yes, the reek of urine on street corners. Samosas frying in woks.

The best smell I smelt was from my balcony on Marine Drive facing the Arabian Sea. Just that sea water smell, like any coastal point in the world. The worst would have been riding past the dog carcass on the highway heading south to Palolem, Goa.

Rishikesh always smells like fresh guavas around the Swargashram area, and giant papads roasting over wonderful earthy dung fires at dusk.
