It is just too good and the only show of its kind in the entire world. Soldiers from both Indian and Pakistani sides hoist their flags, open their gates, confront each other
and slam the gates shut. Patriotic music is played on both sides with Indians shouting "Vande Mataran" and the Pakistanis shout ' Allahu Akhbar"... All done before a frenzied and cheering crowd! It is better than the changing of the guards at Buckingham palace. |

Those Pakis think they got it going on. They don't know NOTHING.

Blatant militarism and nationalism. Does little for peacemaking.
It's like roosters strutting their stuff around the barnyard. I always hope that humans can do a bit better. |

Its nothing but a vulgar display of nationalistic chauvinism. Hopefully someday we human beings will be truly civilized & there will be no borders, no wars, no religion, no patriotism..... Dont see that happening anytime soon though!

Come on, nino was talking about the border ceremony, not Kashmir. It's hardly worse than a football match. Just a show. They even shake hands in the end.

Well then, I wish this kind of energy could be saved for the football field. There are no rifles involved.

Oops! I stand corrected. I just watched Conor's footage, and there was not a gun in sight. I guess only at similar American events.....

i wonder how this ritual got started. wikipedia has a brief article, but as to the origins it only says that it used to be a more hostile event.

Well, cricket fans here in India vanadlised a player's house coz the Indian cricket team lost a few matches! The politicians (who are a bunch of shitheads anyway) abandoned whatever little work they do in the parliament & officially lamented the coach & the players!!! Those same bastards don't bother about the absolute lack of education & healthcare for the man on the street. Winning a cricket match is more important for those idiots!

I crossed the border via Wagah in 2004 and was amazed at the sheer presence of the Paki guards. They really looked the part. Even the army officer who signed us in at the Paki side was well dressed etc. The guards on the indian side in comparison were crude when it came to speaking and attitude. |
