Valentine day in Bombay

Newspapers are reporting that Shivsena (Stupid Sena) threatened shopkeepers selling valentine greeting cards. Don't they have anything better to do?

This is an annual Event.Targetting shopkeepers during this day under the garb of Protecting Indian culture/tradition.
Yes,they dont have anything better to do i guess as they are self proclaimed guardians of Hindu culture.

Yes, i really agree with batistuta, they dont have anything better to do, where are these culture protecting guardians when people die of flood and hunger and cold, they cant provide any shelter or blankets for the poor, but are ready to do these foolish things

I was just having a chit chat with Batistuta in the 'City Renaming thread' in the off topic forum.

Batistuta,

This thread has relevance to topic we were discussing there. You see cultural nationalism is an undeniable phenomenon.

In Indian millieu we have an unique problem. Our mainstream intellectual discourse is still dominated by Leftists of the Nehruvian era. And this includes old Socialists in the Congress as well.

For various reason (we know which ones) these mainstream political group will not like to discuss or analyze cultural nationalism in an unbiased manner.

The phenomenon itself has a huge platform. BJP briefly tried exploit it with some electoral success.

But the problem is that the middle class does not vote and considers political activism of any kind waste of time. This behaviour actually leaves the entire platform open to lumpen elements of the lowest dredges of the society.

You can abuse the Shiv Sainiks as much you like, but remember we gave them that space. We allowed them to be the self appointed cultural gaurdians. A responsibilty that we abdicated out of political correctness.
