He he...
isn't it funny laughing it up at little brown savages... Glad the center of world economic and military power is shifting...back to it's rightful place. |

The Indian love of religious symbols is completely alien to many people, there is no harm intended when people find the actions in the photo cute or amusing. If the photo had been a dog chasing it's tail, or a monkey stealing a banana, you may have smiled at it, but because it was other humans in the photo you automatically assume that there must be racist intent.

I agree with steven_ber.. as insulting as some threads seem, it might be prudent to restrain our impulse for a rude response. Instead lets attempt to help the poster better understand the issue.
Regarding India's grand plan.. there is not Grand plans other than to promote free enterprise. India up to the 80's was stifiled by bureaucratcy and mundane licensing requirements. A lot of such restrictions have been lifted.. |

steven_ber,
I didn't assume anything, "its realy amazing how far they go for a cow". By "they", He means humans, not monkeys. I don't think he is racist, and this is probably typical of conversations Europeans have amongst themselves, unfortunately the magic of the Internet enabled everyone in the world to read it. |

While the politicians themselves lived a first world standard of living, they thought the rest of country didn't need to, and that poverty made them morally superior. Fortunately, the people in charge now see that India needs to become an economic and military powerhouse as it was in ancient times. India has no choice with it's high unemployment, and China building it's military and economy. In addition, a strong India will ensure that Islamic invaders and Europeans will think twice before re-attempting colonization. |

Back to the Cow
![]() The picture depict the Bull and not cow. The bull is associated with Lord Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction. The one in the picture I think is at Mysore. It’s called Nandi. It’s a huge monolithic statue 100s of years old. Probably the people are the priests doing the annual temple ritual. There is nothing funny about it, at least for the people who live here. Hinduism is religion that uses symbolism lavishly to convey what it wants to say. It has got nothing to do with a cow or a monkey as a biological animal. It’s just another society. It has its customs and beliefs.

Economics
Do agree with the idea that India needs to become an economically strong country. We need an American style capitalism(kind of what we are working towards) but keep the social framework that we have(good family values, and stress on education). Strong military is needed to save India from the hell that lies on her west (the region in general, not any particular country).

I got the same impression as Iyer from the title. I suppose it comes from living there too long. I should have just been a tourista. I don't think it was intentional. However, the inadvertant content is interesting. My wife says she wants to post some pictures of snake worshipping pentacostals in the US and don't get her started on Benny Hinn and speaking in tongues..
