On a long train trip (2nd class 3 tiered sleeper) some years ago we were relaxing opposite a woman in the facing seat with a baby about 9 months old. Our packs were on the floor under our seats. We watched surprised as the woman lifted her little boy up toward the window, & for a second when we realised he was urinating we thought how clever she was aiming him out the window. Then, as urine began flowing down the wall & pooling on the floor near our packs we realised the window wasn't open! For years we've speculated about the incident: did she not catch him in time to get him to the toilet or just what was that about??
She didn't seem at all concerned by our mad scrambling to rescue our packs, & acted as if this was a very normal event. Anyone got any idea what was going on?
This was just one of many over-24 hour train trips we did, but never saw anything else like this. We did spend the whole trip marvelling at how clean & fresh Indian women look, even after sleeping in their clothes on a train for 2 nights, while we seemed to look dirty & bedraggled after 2 hours on a train!
