if 'hippies' try not to conform to the establishment and like to be free from prejudice, racism, sexism, and want to be able to express their minds, and be an individual etc. why on earth then label yourself with such a social group tag. by calling yourself a hippy you are no better than any other western social group that you are trying to get away from.
just because someone smokes a lot of pot and has dreads doesnt make them a hippy, i should know!
in all my trips up and down the length of india, and even now in remote western china, i have never thought of myself as a hippy!!!! although others may do

my son aged 27 has been a hippy since he was 15 i always thought he would grow out of it instead he has adopted the culture fully his philosophy is women,jack daniels,and marijuana he is a peace loving chilled out guy and if there were more people like him the world would be the better for it.he spent some time in Goa 2 years ago and has talked me into going this year if i like it i will stay.he actually has a teaching degree and has promised he will teach me to hypnotise chinese people into doing strange things so watch out for a blonde late 40s normal looking scottish women as i am even more scary than hippies!!!peace and love to all hippies old and new kismet

why do you assume i'm chinese! just travellin here taking a break from india... are all the people who post replies from india indian?

. most of you seem to have quite an old fashioned idea bout china... i havnt met a single communist (even after 4months), but i have met many decent people just like you'd find in india...
today i'm on my way to xiahe(look it up on the net, it a tibetan monastery town) , its good to meet a different kind of traveller here, not just people after a cheap smoke (though there's nothing wrong with a cheap smoke!). thats not to say i dont miss india... of course i do, theres so much to miss, but its good to experience other cultures as well, and besides my tamilian girlfriend is always by my side, so a part of india is always with me!
take it easy, hippies shouldnt get angry about simple messages

I don't think there are any angry hippies in this forum-just goofy ones. Also some seriously pasionate young hindu men and a few cool guys of both nationalities to keep things in balance.
