No Plastic Zone (meaning ?)

NO PLASTIC ZONE SIGN

OK - so there was this notice on the wall in the very famous VTI Railway Station in Mumbai (Surely that name has changed now ? i mean the VTI - Victoria? ) that says:

NO PLASTIC ZONE

Well i spent a few moments considering this notice but am still a little foxed. Does it mean that Credit Cards are not allowed in the station? Or maybe all drinks must be in glass bottles?

Can anyone throw any light on this notice?

I haven't been to Mumbai, but in the Himalayas 'no plastic' means no plastic carrier bags. There is no way of disposing of them.

You see those "no plastic zone" signs everywhere the moment you enter Tamil Nadu. I wish it meant something more than, 'please, try to be less obvious where you throw you plastic garbage'. For a fleeting moment I thought I'd find all sorts of paper bags, paper cups, recycled plates made out of leaves, clay chai cups, instead of plastic. Nope.

picklepak ..that movement has begun in tamil nadu...go to kodaikanaal . They have paper cups.The Hindu has an excellent article on the Kodai revolution in their archives.

So what does the average punter who travels around India make of that notice? I am still really mystified. But maybe that is the whole purpose of the notice. To make you more confused than you were before. Seems like quite a common trait in India.
Why was it on the wall in VTI station ?
Please help !
