By: Ganesh Thakur March 17, 2007 A senior Police Inspector Anand Rao Chavan peed in his pants, when he found himself trapped by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB). A senior judge recently told a government official charged with corruption that the he wished the law allowed him to have the official publicly hanged from a lamppost as he thought that anything less than public hangings could never rid India of its corruption.
Slightly controversial, as the gut hadn't actually been found guilty at that point...

Controversial, yes. But it strikes a chord with many who get frustrated with the corruption.
For those who will inevitably say things are better now, just two concerns of mine -One, the enormous amount of "black" (including corrupt) money coming into the Indian stockmarket through 'P notes'.. an easier way of money laundering than in many countries. -two, the fact that no reforms have been made in the real estate sector, a big bucket for corrupt money (including with the peeing cop) The corrupt in power seem to be saying, " We will reform ourselves last, and maybe not at all. And, we will protect our politicians and babus for as long as possible. Meanwhile, all the rest of you please pay your taxes" |

Well, if things are 'better now' then they must have been pretty bad before.
Our personal dealings with various officials in the past year or so have been very expensive. |

Corruption? After reading the article, it seemed more like extortion to me. Good riddance.

I hate corruption and think it hold India back, but....
I kind of feel sorry for the guy, I shouldn't, he's probably had a damn good life at the expense or others less fortunate than him. But he now loses everything he has in life for doing something that is widely accepted as normal. I suppose the down-side has to mirror the up-sides in life.
