Indias best and worst shopping items

Well after some research I have heard the following--

1.Take your eyeglass prescription to India to get eyeglasses for 90 percent cheaper than the usa--I here Jaipur has several fantastic optometrists.

2.Drugs drugs drugs(I mean the legal kind)---great for cheap rxs up to 80 percent off usa retail. However do either the Indian or united states airport officials have a problem with tourists becoming travelling pharmacys---yes Mr customs official I really do need 1200 nexium and 1000 doxcycicline.

3.Favourite designer items--go to maharani stores--no bargaining--70-80 percent off--great store in Jodhpur from what I here.

4.DVDs--good quality if movie is at least three months old--shitty otherwise -buy in Jaipur rather than dehli--cheaper.

5.I here jaipur in general offers great shopping compared to anywhere in Indiai.

6.Any item of clothing can be duplicated by some of the great taylors in mumbai.

Ok.I have not been to India--first trip to do the triangle and rajasthan in march so as far as I know these shopping statements could be true or total bull--what did you guys think were indias best and worst shopping bargains?

Ayurvedic shampoo, lotions and potions & cremes are very good value long as they are manufactured by a legitimate accredited company. For example a good tube of Arnica cream costs maybe rupees 25 at the most and can't get it for much under $12.00 a tube in Canada. Some of the Shampoos are
great and are actually shampoos not that western hair defoliant stuff.

Cosmetics if you have that skin tone and certainly ayurvedic medicines. Costs me an arm and a leg to buy saris here for the annual Bengali festivities vs India..

Anything kitschy has an invisible "Made in Rajasthan" tag. I'm talking bhantej, mirror work fabrics. Mirror studded anything, in fact.

last time i checked,a year ago . . ..
US customs allows 3 month supply of one's own personal medications to be imported. I have no idea how hard they sweat that one, cuz I have yet to be searched whilst importing for my father-in-law. I do try to keep it to more or less a 3 month supply, tho.

however, I gave a stash to my son, who got thru no search, but a few months later while crossing into USA from a weekend in Canada, they ransacked his car, andreally gave him a hard time about the recaipt for those meds, which he had left in his vehicle!!!

My favourites are:
Leather Jooti (they wear through quickly though so either get them resoled or get enough pairs to last till your next trip!)
Indian-style clothes
Good quality western style clothes (particuarly from Anokhi, love that palce)
CDs - they're about 300rs in India, tons cheaper than in Australia. In bigger cities the western looking music shops sell lots of western CDs too, so you're not limited to Bollywood soundtracks.

Actually this is more or less my shopping list for my next trip...

Ooh and doxycycline.. I bought a bunch back with me before I left last time and it will be enough to get me through this trip too
You usually need to start taking them before you arrive, but if you've got enough for a week you can always buy more once you get there! They're about a tenth of the price in India, compared to Australia.
