Bastistua, I think the answer to your question is simply 'they weren't'!!

Thinking a little more about the issue though...

When I joined a well-known private hospital in Delhi I was required to have a medical. The medical included, amongst a list of tests as long as your arm, a consult with a gynaecologist. I drew the line at this when she began asking me about my sexual history.

So the above proposal doesn't surprise me.
Heard the word 'privacy', anyone?!

Common GI, That word does not exist in our Dictionary! yes ,they were not thinking as you rightly point out, I was trying to give them the benefit of the Doubt .
