Haha very true. You should have seen me trying to catch cobra's with the Irula Tribals. Now that was something!

Thanks Nick! Ya i tried to immerse myself in the culture and the wildlife while i was over there. Ya at croc bank i was actually the guest of the owner so i got do do a lot of behind the scenes stuff most other people dont get to see/do. Hopefully he knew what he was doing or else i could have lost an arm or a leg. Although i thought that it was kind of ironic that the first American Alligator i got ahold of was the whole way across the globe in India!!

I'll check with the other mods, but that might be one of the every-body-but-Amyl threads!

on the other hand, if you check the link, and see that the words in the URL don't match the supposed title you may come to the conclusion that it was just a tease

Going on a crowded bus in Mumbai, only standing room left, with a 100 rupee note sticking out of my back pocket (in '79). Of course it disappeared.

But then, the note was play money and I had the last laugh!

Hi,
Maybe you should have found some Indiamikers in your city or like was mentioned in the other thread about couchsurfing. Meeting locals really helps feel less alienated to a new country. Hopefully your next India trip wont be like that.

Take care

And Indian hospitality among friends can't be beat. Too bad you missed that chance! You would have had a warm welcome, I'm sure.

Hmm...not sure it was the dumbest thing but it was daft. I needed to call my credit card company while I was in Delhi. So I phoned the UK number on the back of the card and got through to their call centre....in India. The most expensive local call ever!

That's a nightie??? No wonder I got some stares.
So all those shops with the bright dresses (with frilly bits ) are actually sexy lingerie shops??? Oh my. I need to tell my neighbor I brought her home a nightie and not a summer dress...or maybe not.

Priceless!

I get calls from "corporate head quarters" all the time here (free offers, etc.) from folks with names like "Bob" and "Julie" (no comment) and I always ask, "Hey, do you know such and so in Kerala?" or something similar and have gotten into some excellent (sneaky on their end) conversations with "Bob" and "Julie" about their families, villages, etc.

They always wonder how I knew.

I never seem to get an Indian call centre.

It would make it much easier explaining my change of address fro Abhiramapuram to Palavakkam!

On one occasion, while I was still in London, a woman at the bank was surprised that she not only didn't need to spell her name out for me, but I could tell her what it was short for!
