ymca and other acco. in Shimla
hi All:
I know this topic has been discussed in-depth here. I did search and read a lot of the useful info found in these threads. Thanks for all that. I am planning a trip to Shimla in Sept. I have my train tickets booked. I am planning on staying in the YMCA in SHimla. I am a life member in YMCA, and I love YMCA acco. I am travelling with my wife. My quick question is : how are the double bed rooms in the YMCA. Do they have attached bath and hot water. I read somewhere that the YMCA has only common bathing rooms. Is that true? If I was travelling alone, I would not mind it, but then when with family, I am not sure. My other question is : how easy is it to do some sightseeing there by bus/taxi etc ? I am not taking my own vehicle. I am travelling by train. Can some one please shed some light ? Thanks bunches, Mouli |

nice place
I stayed there a year ago - I think they had dorms in the main building, and some double/single rooms in the small villa-type building right next door. That's where I stayed - basic, cheap and paper thin walls but great location, reasonably quiet and nice views from the terrace out front. Keep the windows shut - monkeys. The dining room in the main building reminded me of the teacher's room in my English school.

Hotel PineView in Shimla
Hi All:
While on the subject of lodging in Shimla, Has anyone stayed in Hotel PineView in Shimla ? Family friend of mine has offered to book a room for me there at a good rate. Any first hand experiences ? -mouli- ps: I feel so God-awful just asking so many questions. So to (try and) give something back to this forum, I give you my travelogue page. Right now it only has a travelogue to Mussoorie. I think it is pretty detailed for a 3 day trip. Hope it helps someone. http://www.geocities.com/g_c_mouli/travelogues.html Last edited by SHIMLA : Aug 27th, 2005 at 15:46. Reason: Threads merged |

I remember I had the same problem! I tried to phone ahead but couldn't - so on arrival I asked and they said they had changed numbers. So they still list the wrong ones online... idiots. Sorry, I can't help you with details... |

Hi..
I am travelling to Shimla next weekend and am looking for budget accomadation. I like the rates offerred by YMCA. I was wondering if once needs to be a member of YMCA to avail the accomadation? I am not a YMCA member!! Cheers T.I.P |

I stayed at the Pine View for a few nights last year. The carpets were a bit shabby but otherwise pretty good for the rates and the staff were very good.
