Himachal Pradesh - Shimla, Dharamsala, McLeod Ganj, Manali, and other destinations in the region

What do you suggest: Manali-Kaza-Shimla or Manali-Leh-Manali??

Guys,
Whats the news with Malling Nallah..I read Dhananjay's old comment on another thread which mentioned an alternate route from Nako to Chango. I am not well aware about the routes and geography of the area yet. Could someone please enlighten?

Lovemax Bro: read your entire triplog of 31 pages in one go..fascinating. You and your 'Girlfriend' made for a awesome twosome..you heading back the same road again this year?

New road link between Kinnaur, Spiti
Shimla, April 17
A link has been provided between Kinnaur and the cold desert of Spiti with the completion of an alternative road to bypass the hill terrain near the Malling nullah.

Did went till Karcham
Roads are quite acceptable to ride on untill u just plan to do 150Kms a day on those terrains it should be fine.

Weather in Kinnaur was really strange as - there was snowfall at this time of the year and then the rainfall for next two days...

Smile Spiti-Kinnaur

If you only have 10-12 days then don't try to do too much.
Two years ago I went from Shimla into Kinnaur valley. I strongly recommend Kalpa which is up the hill from Rekong Peo, it's a beautiful village and so peaceful. From Kinnaur I travelled into Spiti valley. Spiti is very different from Kinnaur and a lot higher up. It's a dramatic landscape, almost moonscape. Both the people from Kinnaur and Spiti are so nice, very friendly people. My favourite spots in Spiti were Nako and Tabo.To travel into Spiti you need a permit which you get in Rekong Peo if you come from the east. The permit, if I remember well. was only vaild for seven days so there isn't so much time to visit many places.
The travel from Nako to Kaza was a little tricky but far from impossible. Around 2km of the mountain road wasn't where it should of been, it was in the Sutleg River in the bottom of the valley. So I had to send my bag over the valley in this basket on this metal cable pulley system, then tried to financially persuade the pulley operater that it would be good for me to travel the same style as my bag. He was man of integrity and I walked. To cut a short story shorter it was very steep and I was out of breath. From the other side of the landslide I found a ride that took me to Kaza. Up the hill, well mountain from Kaza is the village of Kibber, again, beautiful place. The whole of Spiti valley is an amazing area of the world.

I am sorry if this is just making you more confused as I have not been able to tell any experiences from Ladakh. I chose Spiti over Ladakh because I thought it would be the quieter path.

Wherever you get to......enjoy.

Manali- Kaza- Tabo-Kalpa- sangla-Shimla.

I would personally recomend the Manali-Tabo- Shimla through ,kinnaur .
The problem on this route is the Mulling Nullah further ahead of Nako ( while coming from Manali)..which always get flooded during heavy monsoons.

You can do best of both.

Shimla - Spiti - Kunzum La - Chandra Tal - Tsomoriri lake - Leh - Nubra - Leh - Zoji La - Sonmarg - Srinagar - Jammu.

If you are short of time return to Manali from Leh.

Cheers & Godspeed
