Hi All
I am from Delhi and I am planning to visit Kinnaur in third week of August. I am thinking about leaving Delhi on Friday night and coming back by Wednesday evening/night. I would like to know is it possible to cover Kinnaur in 4 days and where all I can visit in the required time frame? We are two friends and we would be on a budget travel so we would be using public transport…. Bus, shared cabs etc. Can someone suggest to me how to go about this trip. I am thinking about taking train till Kalka, how do I move forward after that? As the Kalka mail reaches early in morning, would it be possible to reach Kinnaur the same day? Please suggest the places I can visit in Kinnaur and the various staying options and what kind of weather should I expect in the end of August, heavy rains or it wouldn’t be so? Thanks in advance |

Kalka to Kinnaur
Chandigarh - Recong Peo bus crosses Kalka between 5.45 - 6 am. You will have to come to the main road from the Kalka station, a 5 minute walk and this will take you all the way to Recong Peo. You should reach Peo by 7 in the evening. From Peo, Kalpa is half hour drive up where you can get shared trax jeeps or buses.

can I have some more suggestions plz
If I go to Kinnaur from Shimla... where should I head to Kalpa or Sangla as I intend to go to Chitkul. Should I stay overnight at Kalpa and do Kalpa-Sangla-Chitkul the next morning, will it possible to cover in one day? or what could be alternate itinerary? |

Kinnaur might not be very safe in August, due to frequent landslides and flashfloods.

Can you throw some light, what areas you are specifically talking about in Kinnaur valley? Just a background, I am travelling to Simla Sangla Valley route (8 -16 Aug). Any specific places that i need to be wary of? Any earlier experiences ? Flashfloods specifically where? Cheers Hymz |

Hi Hymz,
Hindustan-Tibet road along sutlej is prone to devastating flashfloods due to cloudbursts in Parichhu lake, few years back the highway itself was washed away at certain places. Sangla valley is relatively safe but cloudbursts are not uncommon there as well. Get proper information about the latest conditions before you leave. |

Bhai Logo !!
The best option is to catch the HPRTC bus from ISBT. There are two buses, one goes to Rampur around 6.30 pm and reaches Rampur in early morning. You can catch the conacting bus from there to R peo or opt for a one day stay at Rampur. Recong Peo is 100 kmrs from Rampur. Another bust from Delhi starts around the same time to Recong Peo directly and reaches around 12 in the noon next day. Once you reach Recong Peo , try to get room at PWD guest house, which is at best location of R Peo, other wise there is a hotel just opp to it.." Hotel Shivling View". Owner Mr Bhupinder. Go to Kalpa and while returning back ..visit Sangla and Chitkul. Then Sarahan and Narkanda. Cheers !! |
