Trout fishing, Himachal Pradesh

I'm heading out to India for 6 months. Hopefully soon, depending on when someone rents my house.

I'm a very keen (verging on obsessive) angler. I really can't bear the though of 12 months away from my hobby, as I'll be spending a further 6 months in south east Asia, after I leave India.

I'm particularly keen on fly fishing; I spend many happy days in spring/ summer catching wild Brown Trout and Grayling from the revitalised rivers of northern England.

I've spent several hours surfing the web looking for information on angling in India. I'm aware of the Mahseer; I was fortunate enough to catch a 17 pounder on my visit to India 2 years ago; courtesy of the Himalayan Outback guiding service.

What I'm really interested in now is the Brown Trout potential in the rivers of Himachal Pradesh. I know there are various hatcheries close to many of the streams/ rivers. But does this equate to quality fishing? I guess my view of quality Trout fishing is maybe a dozen fish in a day, with 2 or 3 of them being over a pound in weight.

What might I expect, am I likely to be disappointed?

I intend to bring a travel fly rod, 5 weight.

Any other hints/ information will be most gratefully received!

There r plenty of trouts and other fishes in the small tributary of Beas River at Aut, which near Kullu. One day fishing permit can be obtained for Rs.100 from the local fisheries office.
