Trip to Mcloedganj 2nd week of June 2012

We are planning to go to Mcloedganj on 2nd week of June , heard lot about this place specially CHINESE FOOD. I AM DIE HARD fan of chinese food.I have few question :help:

1) I would be leaving from Delhi around 12 Noon as one of my friend have office , so is it possible to cover entire delhi-mcloedganj stretch in 1 day?

2) If we cover entire stretch in 1 day , we would probably reach Mcloedganj in Mid Night, is it safe to reach Mcloedganj late at night.

3) As have 2 days to stay in Mcloedganj, can any one suggest me which all places should visit.

4) we are 2 couples , so which would best hotel to stay, we dont mind staying away from city if it saves couple of bugs . ,
WE PREFER STAYING IN HOTEL HAVING GOOD VIEW OF MOUNTAIN AND INDEPENDENT BALCONY MUST. OUR BUDGET IS NT MORE THEN 1000- 1500 RS PER NIGHT..

We would be travelling by our own car, PLEASE HELP US..

Refer to link below (it's the best and latest on Mcleodganj)
http://mcllo.com/index.html

Delhi to Mcleodganj is close to 550 Kms and is doable in a single day. I had traveled through an HPTDC that started 6:30 in the evening and reached around 8:00 in the morning.

Most of the hill stations are safe in night too (extra precautions are necessary as always).

My memories are of long back but can recall of some good bakeries there; you will find a few in the main market area. Another interesting link:

Jaideep, you can try a hotel at Naddi, which is further up McLeodganj. It is a quite place with good view of Dhauladhar range. Alas! I don't remember the name of the hotel I stayed at. You may look at my blog here for some pics. There's also a pic of the hotel I stayed at.
Thanks,
Deep

Hi,

I have just returned from McLo yesterday after spending a day there. We stayed at Sangam hotel which is near Bhagsunag temple, about 2km from McLo. They charged 1K for 3 of us staying in 1 room. Its not that secluded a place and is not that quiet either during the day but you get a reasonably good view all around (plz. see the attached pic) This is a quickly stitched blend of two pics for you to have an idea of the view.
*edit* --- Sangam hotel has independent balconies and the view seen in photograph is if you get rooms on front side. We were in room 101 (corner room) on first floor. Their contact number is 01892-221013

Of-course Naddi (see attached pic of hotels at Naddi) is comparatively quieter but there in my view you have limitations on visiting other areas around like you get to visit at Bhagsunag like Bhagsu falls, Dharamkot and even a trek to Triund. Even if you don't go till Triund you can venture on to the trek route to Triund and have an exhilarating experience. Try going till Golu Temple (about 3 km from Bhagsunag) and have a feel and glimpse of the views and weather all around you.

All the best for the trip!

For Chinese food you must try Common Ground (an amazing place about 200 metres up a little street from the main square), Tibet Kitchen (nice place. If it is full, they have the same menu next door at Beans Cafe), Hotel Tibet (the first proper hotel built in McLeod Ganj), and Chu Sum (Chinese food from the border of Tibet and China). Bon Appetit!

HI Deep,

Thank you for your reply.

How far is Naddi from Mcloedganj?

Some people recommended me Bhagsu, so which would be better option?

You can stay at the Udeechhee Huts in Naddi - absolutely fabulous property looking straight up at the Dhauladhar range. The location of the property is such it almost gives you the feeling that you can touch the snow peaks. You may have to just stretch your budget a bit (I just came back from there).

Mcllo is a good restaurant with good food - bang in the middle of the main market square. Good variety too.

yes, the rooms have balconies facing the mountains. It is roughly 2 km from the main market area - so you need to have a car of your own to do those commutes.

jaideep, unfortunately there aren't too many "places" to "visit" as such. Just soak in the beauty of the Dhauladhar, spend hours chatting/drinking with friends - that's just the kind of place McLeodganj is. Take trips down to the market place, have food at Mcllo, walk around the market area, there are nice cafes as well (as they cater to lots of foreigners - unfortunately the cafe culture is quite missing in India) ... there is a nice church on the way to the town centre, so visit that. Apart from that not much to do really.
This is peak tourist season, so keep that in mind. Some people go to see the Bhagsu falls - but there is really not much to see this time of the year.
Overall nice place to chillax, but it's not an "activity" place like a Manali (where you can go to Solang, go for river rafting, or paragliding etc).

Hi Ajit,

I just spoke with someone from Udeeche huts. There are 3 different categories of room!! in which categories you stayed.?

For Normal the are asking 1800-1900
Semi deluxe- 2100
Deluxe 3100
super Deluxe-4100

Is there any scope of bargaining???
