Hello,
I'm planning a trip to Manali from Hyderabad end of March with my wife, we're newly wedded, so it's going to be a honeymoon trip for us. Can someone suggest the best advice to go from Hyderabad to Manali, for about 3 nights, and also some good decent hotels in Manali that offer great views of the mountains? thanks so much! Also, whats the weather like, best things to see and do, etc! |

manali is situated on foothill & covered with big hills and restrict ur view of mountains. in march u can't go beyond kothi so forget to see mountain ranges from rohtang pass.
u can only play in snow. thats all u can do in march. Its a calm place. enough to keep u busy for 3days. johnson's lodge is a good place for honeymooners. |

With three days time and the places you are mentioning, I would suggest to keep realistic expectations. Also, it is going to be a long journey from HYD. You might want to consider a place where you just stay and enjoy the crisper air. All the best!

If u have only 3 days time, skip HP and go to UA. Mussoorie, Ranikhet, Mukteshwar, Almora are all good.

congratulations for your marriage, 3 days for manali (thats too short and you would exert yourself much. My first suggestion would be to add some more days on your plan.
However, Manali is a universal Honeymooner's destination and with Indian marriages during that period you would lots of Honeymooner's there. Bear in mind the following : 1. it would take 10/12 hours from Delhi to Manali HPTDC runs a bus volvo from Delhi at 6.00 PM - If planning to go by bus then take a Hi-tek volvo Rs. 950 PP one way. 2. |

honeymoon is about knowing each other. if u agree with that and if u r sure about going to himachal pradesh then why don't head to chamba or to kinnaur. go to a small village. take a walk in the village holding hand in hand. have a taste of their cuisine, their culture, the people.
manali is famous because it is the gateway to himalaya not for the hills n mountains. in winter u can't cross rohtang pass the gate to himalaya. manali nowdays is a complete chaos. better head to north himachal pradesh. chamba is calm n relaxed. take a walk along river. go to sahoo. it has a different view. different than manali or any other hill station. i bet she'll love it. mine loved that. better buy 100 hill stations by outlook traveller. it has all the info. |

From Delhi take a cab & head to Almora. Get a permit for staying at the forest bungalow in Binsar. The permit will be issued by the Forest office(West) in Almora. Stay at the bungalow deep inside Binsar reserve forest. In case the bungalow is not available there is the KMVN tourist lodge.
Awsome mountain view and also forest. |

wondering when?

Quote:
- can we procure this permit in delhi [is there a way to reserve the bungalow in advance]? - if we hire a cab from almora itself, would it be a one way cab? - is there any attendant and guide present in the forest bungalow? - do you need to carry supplies and cook for yourself in the bunglow? - how far in KMVN lodge from the forest bungalow? |

I do not have the postal address or the phone number of the Forest office so reserving the forest bungalow from Delhi may not be feasible.
No cab driver will agrre for a one way fare, you will have to pay for the return too. There are places to visit from Binsar. Patal Bhubaneswar under ground caves, Chakhouri. If you keep the cab you can make these excurssions. There is an attendant in the forest bungalow who will prepare food for you. We had some provisions with us but the attendent should be able to make simple food but if you reach in the afternoon/evening it may be difficult. The KMVN lodge is walking distance from the forest bungalow and it should be possible to arrange food there. |

All FRHs have chaukidars, and most of them will cook as well, altho it's not mandatory for them to do so. Leave a decent tip at the end of your trip. It wud be a matter of pure good luck if he can provide u some rations, it's definitely not part of the deal at any FRH. There are no shops nearby - take all your supplies. Or eat at KMVN (order in advance). It's about a km from the FRH, at most. |

manali ...
hi chiggi,
i was there in last feb. for a weak. my suggestion is, don`t around more and more places.. manali itself must need 3 nights 4 days.. so,for 3 days, manali is best. from delhi to manali, volvo bus is very best. train will not be suitable for manali. day.1: reach manali at morning at around 11 a.m. check in room and take rest.evening earlierly go to hadimba temple by walk and walk around manali town. day.2: solang valley.. play snow games and paragliding in this beautiful valley.this valley beautiful for snow and photo purposes.(if possible stay atleast a day in solang valley).but, i am not sure about snow conditions in march.. day.3: go upto gulaba, kothi if possible upto rohtang pass on the way to solang valley. this place is also very very beautiful place of fully snow covered valleys. dont miss it. day.4: visit naggar, this is a place of small castle and one famous painting museum is must to see. and in evening at 5 - 6 pm,return to delhi by volvo bus. this is my best advice as per my experience.. -suresh babu. |
