Congratulation!! Arnab, Nice to see you back in forum, please post your experience and snaps, I know you would be busy after 15 days break, but we are really keen to share your experience

Why Chandrataal is not mentioned in your report? I guess Shveta visited there on 8th Oct and you should get the road open on 11th as well.

Looking for you to complete the most difficult part of the trip now, a report (may be a small one) with snaps

Hi Arnab,

I was planning for trip to Shimla - Manali starting this 14th November (this is the only time I could get free).
I did google earth for the above destination and your intenary was fabulous. It made you reach Manali from Shimla covering almost all the superb places around Himachal Pradesh.

Even now, I wish to follow the same route. Could you pls guide through the mode of transport you used between these places?

Cheers.

Amit, don't try to follow Arnab's itinerary on 14th Nov onwards. Haven't you seen in newspaper even a weak WD have got the tourists stuck in Rohtang 2 days back? This is quite a remote place devoid of infrastructure in many places. The high passes would be closed officially. You can easily undertake Shimla - Manali direct route through Mandi/Kulu but taking NH22 through Rampur/Kaza won't be possible due to closure of both Kunzum and Rohtang pass. Follow Arnab's original thread, you would see he started planning this trip since February 2010, so better you plan it for next summer, would be indeed a great trip.

Cheers!!

You always need your own (hired) transport if you want to cover these whole circuit in the same amount of time Arnab covered. During season time almost all the places (barring a few like Pin Valley) are connected by Public Transport but definitely you need more time to explore if you plan to use Plan Transport.

Hi Kshil

Thanks for the guidance.
I would be also running short of time as max 20th i should leave back for delhi.
Was thinking just to do Shimla - Sarahan - Kalpa (may be two days each)
Hope these places would be accessible.

Cheers

Hi Amit,

Which month 20th you are refering here? If you could write in details about your plan, it would be easier for people here to put forward their comments. Unless it's a complete snowed out, all the places you mentioned should be accessible even during winter.

Cheers!!

Hi Kshil

I would be reaching Shimla by toy train on 14th november by Himalayan queen at around 5.20 pm.
From here was thinking about two days for Shimla (take sight seeing buses for tattapani on 15th and then kufri on 16th)
Then perhaps 17th-18th could do sarahan
and 19th-20th november do Kalpa and then get back to delhi.
Although I am still not sure which would be the best economical way to get back to delhi from Kalpa.

And while we would be in Sarahan and Kalpa, what would be the best way to spend two days each there.

Cheers.

I can't say about Tattapani but Kufri is literally not clean enough. Not sure if you would like that place. My take would be skip Kufri and take bus to come to Sarahan directly.

Sarahan offers some local hikes, for details keep in touch with Sudeshna, one IMer who stays at Sarahan.

Kalpa has to offer unhindered view of Kinnaur Kailash, that would be something which would be difficult to forget in lifetime. Treks available are to Chakha Pastoor and a gentle walk to Roghi Village.

Kalpa to Delhi would be quite long, some public transport may take you to Chandigarh I guess, keep searching. But you should keep 2 days for reaching Delhi if you use public transport. Excellent idea would be to stopover Narkanda while returning, another nice place but not sure if it can fit into your schedule.

There is a HRTC service between Peo (just below Kalpa) and Chandigarh. See Day 21 of the post here.
