Trip report : kinnaur spiti tour - april 2008

I have not used sumo on those roads but Sumo sure is a bumpy ride even in the plains.

During our trip the sumo was 1600 and the tavera was 2000. we spent an extra 400 as we felt it would be worth it as we had elderly parents travelling with us.

I wud have said Sumo is ok, but nevertheless ask for Qualis rates, if they have em. If it's around 2000, take it.

Any idea about Manali hotels..? My budget is around 1000/- per day. I would like to spend a couple of days over there.. as its the 'puja'season, I suppose that rates will hike.. also I heard that the Mall in Manali is very crowded, with shops, auto stands etc. Is there any hotels with moderate rates but a little distance (maybe .5km) from the market place? Also how much could be an average course of meal cost(dal,chawaal/roti like)..?

Excellent description and really informative. Please let me know whether you went for this trip early-april or late April. I am planning to take this route 3rd/4th week of coming April.

its difficult to sustain without the being there at hills.. i am a HILL ADDICT

Nayan, we plan to cover this route on bikes during May 1st week 2009. Do you think its feasible??

Welcome to IM Adarsh,
May 1st week .... quite possible but it'll be tricky if you intend to return via Kaza - Manali route as Rohtang/Kunzum La pass might remain closed during that period.

Thanks Swapnil.. IM is such an amazing storehouse of information,. I'm glad I found this forum..

One more question.. We are soo keen on camping along streams/valleys/basically in the open. We would be carrying our tents and other required camping materials.. Do you think its safe enough( not just in terms of weather) to be camping outside.. We would be about 6-7 guys..

I'm no expert about camping in this area ... better you should post this query in Trekking & Mountaineering forum where it'll attract more attention ... personally I think apart from bad weather there should be no other reason to worry about . Good luck !
