The route is via Pin Parvati Pass 5319m. Better to do it from Parvati to Pin River valley as you will acclimatize better and the climb is pleasant and very gradual. The climb from the Pin side is steep. The Pin side is also at a high altitude which means you will have to stay at Mud village for three days just to acclimatize.

On the Pin side the guides are available at Sagnam or Mud village with great difficulty at 800 rupees to 1000 rupees per day.

In Manali, getting guides is easier.... although they have now formed a Union and will not bargain for the rates.

Better go to Manali, get the guides and start from Parvati river valley.

Happy trekking!!!

some more...

Hi Avid (or anyone else)

thank you for replying so fast...
well, we're planning to stay sometime in parvati so we want to start the trek from mud anyway.
is there a tecnical part in the climbing or is it just hard? (and if so can you esimate how long is that part?)
what about gear? is there an option to rent tents over there?
and do you think that there is any spaciel gear that is necessary?
and one last (i hope ) thing/
do you think that the beginning of august is o.k.?
muchas gracias...

yoldi !

Avid is right-please do not try this route from spiti side.
From parbati valley-trail upto base of pass is fine but you need a good guide for climbing to pass and then descending.

There had been accidents in this area-thats why I suggested to have one good guide with you.

hi

hi,
I second avid for the same .... It is better to start trekking from Parbati than Pin valley ... The trek is technical though not like a mountain expedetion to say the least .... Be sure to encounter crevasses on the pass ... So it makes all equipment very very essential .. dont attempt without attempt ... I dont know of your experience however I am sure you will need the gear ... Guides have a Union now in Parbati ... the lowest rate going is 500INR a day ... you will also need porters ... 150 - 200 INR .... I can recommend Ramesh from Spiti who has done Pin Parbati over 7-8 times and maybe he can also arrange it for you starting from Pulga in Parbati valley ... you can get in touch with him at 01906-222711 in Kaza .. spiti .... Guides and other equipment can also be arranged from the authoritiesd at the Great Himalayan National Park .. Their office is in Shamshi kullu ... check thier website www.ghnp.com, www.greathimalayannationalpark .com .... either of the two
all said and done it is a difficult trek .. be prepared and acclimitise well .... happy trekkin ...

Cheers,
dhananjay
