travelling to HP/Ladakh in September

We are arriving in India on September 6th for our third trip. This time to the Himalayas. We were planning on flying to Leh on September 7th, spending 4 or five days there and then heading back by road to Manali etc..
Since we only have a short time in India this trip, we are worried about getting caught in Leh. Will the roads still be open at around September 11th or 12th?

Another option would be to go to Shimla and/or Manali first and then to drive to Leh and fly back. Does this make sense or will we miss the beautiful view etc. in HP because of the monsoons since it will still be relatively early in September.

Thanks for your help!

I went by bus last year early October. No problem but you could see they were expecting the passes to close in any day. The tent camps were closed by then. Expect delays south of the Rothang La due to flooded/eroded roads. The road is spectacular and you will be able to enjoy it (and from time time , grab hold of seat in front of you, really hard...) better from spending some time in Leh first.

Srinagar to Shimla in September

A friend of mine has two weeks off from 24 September and she wants to visit Srinagar and Shimla (she's been reading some stuff on the internet, I had nothing to do with it ).

What would be the easiest itinerary? (she's never been to India but travelled extensively in Asia) like, flying to Srinagar and then going down to Shimla somehow - by bus/train?

What will be the weather in Shimla in the end of Sept?

thanks

The route via Shimla-Kalpa-Kaza is open upto December. But Govt bus services will cease in Oct. Only Army vehicles use the other route. You can, of course, hire a private vehicle & take this route.
