taxi-sharing from McLeodganj ?

I will be going back to Pathankot from McLeod Ganj 11-Jan-2007 on my own (leaving earlier than the rest of my group). Planned to take a bus, but taking a taxi might be worth it if I could find someone to share.

Anyone can suggest a good way to find someone to share a taxi to Pathankot that day? Post on a bulletin board in McGanj? Hang around a taxi area that morning and ask?

Thanks,
- P

P.S. seems taxi ride should cost around Rs 1000, is that right?

Hi Peter,
Taxi costs around 1000 but a cheaper option would be to look for the taxis who have come to drop people to pathankot from dharamshala,as they have to return anyway so they wud agree for 500 rupees.

yes- rishab is fine but I would suggest just to take care when you are sitting with unknown people. Tourist places of these areas are crime-prone.

If possible- ring up someone with taxi no: you are traveling - int his way someone will be knowing where and with whom you are with.

Thanks rishabh and himadventures! I hadn't considered that it might be dangerous to share a taxi.

Hi Peter,
Himadventures is right whatever travel option you take just inform someone about it for safety and security's sake.

Hi
If you don't manage to hook up with someone to share a taxi you should be ok as we found the bus ride was fine

The buses from pathankot to dharamshala are very rickety ones and in very bad shape.

The bus ride is not bad, ANY public bus is in bad shape in India, so where's the problem?
Anyway I took a taxi last time in march and it was 500 rupees, we were six passengers so it costed 80 rupees each, not that much!
You can hang around the bus in the morning and ask someone to share a taxi with you, I'm sure you will find many people, good luck
