Question Sutlej valley déc/jan.?

Hi,

I'm interrested to follow the road 22 (Shimla dir. Powari) to discover the Sutlej valley...in déc/january...
Do you think it's possible? (bus, road etc...)
If yes, also searching for nice & quiet places to eat and rest...for two people.
Any info welcome.
Thank you very much.

Hi Puja!

A really good source of information for this area is an account by our member haji. We found this really useful even though we stayed at some different places - recommendations from other travellers along the way.

At Kalpa we stayed at the Aucktong Guest House which is on the Pangi road above the town. It's a small family run place with great views of the Kinner Kailash Range of mountains - about 200 rupees for a double room. A little way back down on the road to Kalpa is the open air Garden Cafe run by Dinesh Singh Nagi. He can cook you a range of Tibetan, Bengali and Western food. I'm not sure if it will be open in the middle of winter though.

If you're going to be in the Sangla Valley then we can recommend the Rupin River View Hotel at Rakcham. The room facing up the valley towards Chitkul has a spectacular view. The village itself was mostly burned down a couple of years ago and is still being rebuilt. It's interesting to watch the local artisans carving the wooden decorative bits.

It's going to cold at this time of year as both these places are higher than Shimla and there is even the possibility of snowfalls.

If you could post again on roughly which places you are planning to visit you might receive some more replies. Enjoy your visit!

Forgot to add that both the above GH's can supply meals on request.

Hi Puja,
This is a trip I have wanted to for a long time. Please tell me the following things.

1) How far can you go in winters?. Does the road get closed beyond Kalpa in winters?.

2) How good is the road?.

3) What is the temparature like in winters?.

Thanks
Kaushiks
