Srinagar to LeH?

Planning a trip to Himachal starting Friday.

I was thinking of going from jammu (after visiting Vashnav Devi) to Srinagar (via bus?) for 3 days. Then going from Srinagar to kargil to Leh and stopping at things to see along the way. How do I go from Srinagar to Leh? Is there a bus, or is it possible to rent a car (2 of us traveling).

The other option I guess is Jammu to Manali. Then go from Manali to Leh. Same questions.

Are these roads opeN????

I am flexible in terms of where to go - I have about 6-7 days to travel. Any good ideas for Himachal region (what are good places to see).

No idea about current status but usually Manali - Leh road opens in first week of June or so.. depending upon BRO's work & weather conditions...Srinagar - Leh road might be already opened ...other options in Himachal include Dalhousie,Bharmaur....near Jammu or Kalpa , Sarhan ,Kaza, Tabo , Kibber,Kunzum-la pass in Lahul & Spiti region of Himachal Pradesh .

Regular buses ply between Srinagar - Leh but traveling in (normal)bus will be very uncomfortable..... traveling by car will be better & comfortable option ...you can hire car in Srinagar...go for SUV vehicle( rather than small car)as some roads in region (like Zojila pass) are in bad condition .

Srinagar-Leh : open since April 22. Bus with overnight stop in Kargil, or jeeps.

Manali-Leh : first vehicles across the Rothang ( and first delivery ! ) a week ago , official opening scheduled within days.Bus with overnight stop in Keylong or Darcha, cannonball run directly Manali-Leh with jeeps , around 20 hrs - avoid it like the plague. Don´t sleep at Sarchu.

Rohtang is open for light traffic and it would be some time before the heavy traffic is allowed, of course only after that Manali - Leh route would open.

Best option for you would be to go to Vaishno Devi, have a darshan and then go straight to Srinagar and take a J&KSRTC bus to Leh.

"light traffic" ? ?

Maybe there is some distinction I don´t get here , but from earlier years my experience is that once the official road marker shows open the road is open for all vehicles , and it has done so now for more than two weeks.

Are you saying that the buses are not running ? What is "the heavy traffic" that is not allowed two weeks after officially open ?

Calm down and read my post, I am talking about Rohtang Jot and Manali - Leh highway, which were never officially open this season. Also light traffic means trucks and buses aren't being allowed as of now because there is probably too much snow on the road.
