Can any of our friends please suggest a route map ( I am in the lookout for any form of a visual impression) that covers this region - Kaza, Kibber, Komic, Dhankar, Langza etc.

Could any one give a little more details - time/ difficulty/ camping option etc.

Thanks..

Attention KINNAUR Lovers
I suppose the lakes at north of Langza. Explore it yourself! I couldn't find more details.

Hi! North of Langzà,just like to the north of Kibber and near Gete, there are some very small ponds,I have not seen and I am not aware of any "lake" there. In any case they are easy to reach, but lake is a big word for those puddles.

Hi, I'm also not aware of any lakes there, but I've read the first post here...

Places to visit:
Local guides (available within the village) will be required for most of these excursions.

5. Tsonyeti Lake Camping Site: Branching left from the Fossil centre, about an hour’s walk away, north of Langza is the Tsonyeti Lake, a small pond really, which is visited in July and August by migratory ducks. This is a good camping site located at a height of 4526mts.
6. Chumo Tso (Lake- 4619 mts): This lake is larger than the Tsonyeti located at an altitude of 4619m. It is also visited by migratory ducks in July and August. This makes a perfect camping site with its spectacular view of the Chocho Khang Nilda and Chocho Khang Namo.

Hi! I know you read it there, not your fault of course, and it's a fact that speaking of lakes is a gross exaggeratation. The whole thing is overhyped.Knowing the authors......

lakes?

many thanks to AndreasW and voyager61.
I will keep an open eye and mind, if I come across any such lakes, that's a bonus.

also could anyone suggest if there is any camping ground in and around langza or is it advisable to go in for homestay? I was thinking of not going with any agencies...

You can take homestays irrespective of any agency or not with a normal approach against the villagers, plus if you have a tent you can pitch it anywhere you want...lots of camping place.

Question Spiti Itinerary Help!

Hi,

A friend and I are traveling to Spiti later this month. We have exactly two weeks - Manali to Manali. We are on a small budget and would like to do this on our own without prearranging stuff with a travel agent. (we are however talking to Spiti Ecosphere to see if we can stay in the home-stays associated with them)

We would also like to do this trip at an easy and relaxed pace - preferably spending a couple of days in places that we really like. Could anyone suggest an itinerary that roughly covers the places I've listed below? We are not very particular about seeing every sight on the popular touristy circuit - it would be great if anyone could suggest what we can afford to drop from our schedule without missing out on the essence of Spiti.

We'd prefer to travel by public transport/ shared jeeps and stay in home-stays wherever possible. Suggestions welcome!

Tentative Route:

1, Manali - Batal (head to Chandratal if camps are open; if not, head to Rangrik or Kaza)
2. Chandratal - Batal
3. Batal - Rangrik
4. Rangrik - Key - Kibber
5. Kibber - Kaza
6. Kaza - Langza
7. Langza – Komic
8. Komic – Demul
9. Demul – Dhankhar
10. Dhangkar - Tabo
11. Tabo - Kungri
12. Kungri - Mud
13. Mud - Kaza
14. Kaza - Manali

Hi! Going through Ecosphere will badly hurt your budget. Their homestaying would cost you 550 RS,if you show up in the villages without bookings you will never spend more than 300,many times as little as 150,for the SAME thing. Avoid Batal, most probably you will be able to reach Chandratal so go and stay there, with or without your own vehicle, you can also walk(there are 14 or so Kms from Batal, around 10 from Kunzum la) and if you skip or postpone the visit to the lake head at least to Losar,or further. Public vehicles( buses) are not going to Demul and Dankhar,or Chandratal. From Rangrik you need to go to Kaza in order to take the bus to Ki and Kibber,or at least to the bridge, this may be possible with the bus from Manali in the afternoon. Tabo to Pin valley can be done by bus with a change at Attargo, but you will have to wait for a while, unless you are lucky to find a lift in a jeep, although these are few and generally packed.

Question

Hello Friends!

Me and 4 of my friends are planning a clockwise trip through Lahaul Spiti from 1st July to 13th July

I have already booked train tickets for the Paschim Express from Mumbai to Chandigarh and Rajdhani for the return journey.

With help from a friend (and a member of IM) I have prepared a pretty detailed iternary:

2nd Departure
3rd Arrival at Chandigarh (afternoon)
3rd Departure to Manali (night)
4th Arrival at Manali (morning)
5th Departure for Kaja (morning)
5th Arrival at Kaja (evening)
6th Stay at Kaja
7th Stay at Kaja
8th Departure from Kaja (morning)
8th Arrival at Recong Peo (evening)
9th Stay at Recong Peo/Kalpa
10th Departure from Recong Peo (morning)
10th Arrival at Shimla (night)

11th Departure from Shimla (night)
12th Arrival at Delhi (morning)
12th Departure for Mumbai (afternoon)
13th Return

1. Can any of you pick out any major holes in the plan? Especially in the section marked RED.

2. Also the HRTC website lists a timetable of buses plying from Chandigarh to Manali. But except for one bus departing at 5:30pm, all others are pretty odd for the Paschim Express. Are any other buses available?

3. Any help with reasonably priced Hotels along the route will be really appreciated! Especially in Shimla, where I have been warned about touts.

Thank You all in advance!

Chandigarh Manali TATA-AC 8:40PM

Last month, we went from Chandigarh to Manali by TATA-AC that leaves Chandigarh (from ISBT) at 8:40PM; it reached Manali at around 6am.I booked the ticket online.

See
http://www.hp.gov.in/hrtctickets/Availability.aspx
choose TATA-AC as the bus type.
