Hello everybody,
I have registered just a month back. Before registering, I have taken a lot of help from this site for planning my tour programme. Recently I have travelled Spiti and pin valley and a little bit of lahaul district of H.P. entirely by HRTC bus. Myself and my husband have travelled for 19 days in this spectacular region of HP, stayed in home stays and monastery guest houses, travelled by bus, spend more days, hiked and trekked in the place which we liked, and guess how much we have spend? only per head rs. 8500!!! only.
Is it worth to post the the bus timings, addresses of nice people running neat & clean homestays and guesthouses? I am a bit confused. I donot know whether you will like them or not.
just let me know.
Best wishes,
krishnapriya

Hi Krishnapriya,
You are right, its havenly experience of the lifetime travelling in HPRT Bus,I have done that with my wife & 2 doughters all through Shimla,-RekongPeo,Sangla valley,Tabu,Chandra Tall.Kaza and we were stuck for almost 1 week as there was avalanche in route to Manali our way back. But yes its a life time experience travelling in H.P Road Transport Buses they are most dependable and have best instinct on the conditions and weathers. However we have to drive back to manali through glaciers in Maruti Jeep and the driver was just 26 yrs old and he knew the wilderness as back of his hands.
I recomend use local Bus ,cars & drivers only + there are Lamas from monesteries who offers these services its safest to use them.

It would be extremely helpful if you can come up with a trip report, preferably post it in Himachal forum, there are many budget travellers who would be more than happy to find such information here. Bus timings, guest house contacts, interesting places to explore in the region would be really great to include.

And please include some snaps as well

Day22: Reached Chandigarh at 4.30am. back to Kolkata.
All throughout our stays in H.P., we have met very nice, friendly and helpful people. Buses are often crowded but people were helpful enough to make some sitting arrangement for us. At the last stretch of our trekking to Dhankar along a steep narrow path, Shiring came like an angel from the village; took my rucksack (which is 13kg; weighed at airport) without being asked and showed us the way to Dhankar. All the cheap homestays and guest houses are impeccably clean; same are the bed sheets.

Hello TDC,
As we have traveled by bus, I can provide you only the information on bus. from Shimla to Peo there are very frequent bus service of HRTC. these are ordinary, a little bit uncomfortable bus but have very skilled drivers. Bus from Shimla to Peo takes about 12 - 13 hours. from Peo to Kalpa there are two bus services of HRTC one at 9.30am and other at 5.30pm. It takes only 45minutes. But there are number of private buses in every one hour.
if you want to hire SUMO from Shimla you can contact Gopi Sharma (09816689148); he quoted us Rs.1800/- per day including petrol.
we have stayed in hotel Aucktong (Shyamal debnath 08016171746, 09816179457); rooms are really good with grand view of Kinnar kailash; you will get all sorts of bengali food. he served us every evening onion pokoda (penyaji), muri and tea.
happy journey.

As this post is one of the most informative post on recent timings of public transport in this region, shouldn't it be moved to Himachal Pradesh forum, so that it would be easier for people to find this out?

Requesting Mods to give a thought on this.

Krishnapriya, Kudos again for this nice report!!

Cheers!!

Hi Krishnapriya,

Can you throw some light on how to arrange for treks from Kaza into Pin Valley national park? My friends and I are planning to visit this area in the month of August.

Thanks!
