Snow season normally starts in January in the places mentioned. Shimla might or might not get snow. Higher reaches around Manali and Shimla will have snow in Dec last week if not in the main location.

Once in end January I was in Dalhousie/Khajiar and there was no snow there, infact the season was not started. So as the weather can not be predicted, just hope for the best.

And Manali would not be that crowded in Dec being offseason and probably be the best bet to get snow as you can go upto Rohtang in search of it. Shimla can be avoided, but it has its own charm.

Sriprakash rightly said, it can not be predicted and a lot depends on luck also. It does snow in Dalhousie and Khajjiar. I am just putting two snaps of my trips at the time of snowfall. First one is of January 2010 at narkanda and the second one is of this year in January at dalhousie.

Shimla has not had a white Chrismas in the last decade afaik. Last year there was some snowfall in mid-January , the year before no snow that lasted more than a few hours. Snowfall on the very last days of the year happens around every third year.

Last season it snowed in Shimla from 31st Dec to 2nd Jan, 2011, and I reached there on 3rd Jan. Missed it.

Returned on 9th Jan without any luck on snowfall (though snow was around and was plenty in Kufri, Narkanda with thick black ice around Kufri) and it snowed again on 13th Jan. Luck was not with me.

Snowfall can not be gurantted.

Snow will be there in Rohtang near Manali, might be before the pass also. There is a ropeway at Solang to higher mountains and might have snow if not at the base.

There are several areas in Kinnaur where you can get snow.

Hi Cutie!!

Plan for atleast one night stay at Solang. Hotel Iceland is a nice place. Chances of witnessing snow are bright here. Adventure sports will also add to the charm.

Hi Abhik!!
Manali remains very crowded from Christmas till new year as most people from Delhi, NCR & Chandigarh come there to celebrate the Christmas holidays. I know a few people who had to spend a night in their cars during new year as all the hotels were booked. So it's advisable to pre book during last week of December.

The contact info is as follows:-

Hotel Iceland, Sollang Valley
Village Solang, PO Palchan
Manali District, Himachal Pradesh 175103
Tel: (91) 1902-256008, 256463
Cell: (91) 98160-66508
Email : khemrajthakur@hotmail.com
skihimalaya@yahoo.com

Hope it helps.
