Short trip to Shimla

Hi

I am planning a trip to Shimla from July 27th to July 30th.

July 27th: Leaving Delhi via 2011 KALKA SHTBDI from NEW DELHI 07:40 . Arriving KALKA 12:00hrs

July 30th: Leaving Kalka via 2006 KALKA SHTBDI from KALKA 06:00 . Arriving NEW DELHI 10:05 PM

Number of travellers : Two (self with Spouse)

1. I am not sure on how to reach from Kalka to Shimla.
I am not able to find any bus time tables from Kalka to Shimla. My return train is at 6 AM from Kalka. So I am not sure if would be able to get a bus in the middle of the night. Do you suggest that I should come to Kalka on July 29th evening and stay in a hotel (need help with a good budget hotel)
2. Can you suggest some budget hotels in Shimla?
3. Also, could you suggest some places to visit? I am an amateur photographer and would like to take some pictures..
4. It’s my spouse's birthday on the 28th. Can you suggest a good restaurent where we can have a romantic dinner?

Sorry, the following is not much help and is not what you asked for, but this reply will get your post back to the top of the forum.

Air Deccan flight DN-550 departs Shimla on the 30th at 08:55 and gets to Delhi at 10:15.

However, the Rs4,349 (per person, including taxes) fare is expensive.

Hi
1. regular buses ply between Kalka and Shimla. Hop on to one after walking about 10 mins from the railway station or the cabs poutside are good enuff ... 900/-1000/- ... but the best option is taking the 1 PM or 12:30PM narrow gauge train to Shimla. Worth the experience.
2. Hotel Silverine is good (near the high Court), Madan Kunj (near the radio Station), Spars Lodge (near the muesuem), these are some places with character ... rest are good ... stay anywhere ...
3. Mashobra, Craignano, Naldehra are good places to dabble in photography. Or alternatively make a trip to Kufri, Chail and back. Advance studies (Viceregal Lodge, Jakhoo temple, The Catholic church)
4. Best option is to get to kalka at night and stay at Hotel Shivalik or Windsmoor fr the night and catch ur train in the morning. From Shimla it would be a hassle getting there in the morning even if u take a cab as u wud have to get on at 2 AM ...

Hope this helps ....

Cheers

Thank you friends!! I am sure I would have a good time in Shimla

I have made tentative arrangements in Police Lines (somewhere) in Shima

Any idea on where Police Lines? Is it a a good place to stay? How far from the City or (good places)

A bit late now but it would be difficult to rent a bike here from what I have seen so far.

Also Clarkes customer service and food have a bad rating around the place at present both from foreigners and locals alike. I would give Combermere as better rating as I dine at their cafe once a week and know many of the staff who all seem to be pretty well customer service trained.
