i am a documentary maker and going to shoot in reckong peo for the first time , i am planning for shimla trip in 10 jan 2013 from delhi , and some agents told me the road to kinnaur-reckong peo is still open, but can be closed anytime.
well, i wanna know, if the by chance the route get stuck then when it will be open again? in march-june-july like rohtang pass or very quickly as for the travelers and the daily transport? generally, throughout the jan-feb the road get often cleaned and reopened?
note: i am also fascinating about a spiti shoot, so if by any mean i can reach there, by foot and any transport... suggestions required!

Hey Hi, I'm myself doing the same trip Jan 18. Information for a winter trip remains sketchy.

From what I know, Spiti-Shimla road is open all year as there are no mountain passes in between. Only should a landslide occur, takes a few days to clear. Also practically every hotel I rung up is shutting down for the winters as there's hardly anybody going there. Barging in and staying with local population is what I'm counting on.

If the roads are in decent condition, buses should ply from Shimla to Reckong Peo and from Reckong Peo to Kaza. If your luck runs out, you'll need to take a taxi from Shimla.

keeping my fingers crossed too. I've rode to Ladakh a few times. This time though, despite the lack of 5000m passes would easily be the toughest!

Have fun! If you do make a movie, share the same

@dondoniv, read http://www.bcmtouring.com/forum/trav...piti-t12143-5/. That account was from the month of early March 2009.

Of course I speak to myself. I need expert advice sometimes.

Dear Sunnydelhi,
If you want to shoot snow cover for close, better head to Sangla/Chitkul for shooting snow clad valleys & mountains up close. Here is a link to my blog to this region - http://ghummakar-biswas.blogspot.in/...tkul-show.html
I am suggesting this place, as Reckong Peo is a large township and you will not get the exact feel of nature there.

Have a safe journey,

S. Roy Biswas
