Shimla to Manali by bus

I will visit Shimla late April this year. Could you please give me the following information?

How long it will take from Shimla to Manali by bus? Are good buses available and what is the procedure?

thanks

Hi,

From my bad memory I seem to recall it took around 6-8 hours, it is a very popular route both with locals and foreigners so there are plenty of buses every day. I left Shimla early morning so I could get to Manali in daylight. Can't remember how much it cost but just go to a travel desk in Shimla and ask them for the various prices - no need to book in advance.

Shimla to Manali is approx 9 hours drive. State Transport has a regular bus in morning and a deluxe bus at 8.45 in the evening. HPTDC also runs a coach to Manali at 8.30 am and the tickets can be reserved at their Mall road office or by e-mail

manali-shimla overnight buses?

hi,
i have to travel from manali to shimla overnight by bus. is there an a/c volvo bus available?
basically, i 'll not have heavy blankets with me, so if i take a delux bus, is there any way to survive the night journey without heavy blankets? are blankets available on rent?

Shimla- Manali no volvo, a/c buses are available. You will have to wear warm clothes for the night as I beleive you don't get any blankets on rent..

In late april you'll hardly need any warm clothes, a thin jacket or sweater would suffice.

The Shimla- manali Day trip by a private travels bus was one of my worst trips. The Bus would stop every now and then to collect passengers and drop them, like a city Bus. Passengers were travelling 'standing' and crowding on you.

My advise would be to take a Goverment bus preferbly a night trip , but you will miss the sights.

Hi Ritesh,
if you're travelling in night then it would be quite cold,take enough warm clothes and a blanket,if its daytime then you hardly need any warm clothes.

I would still recommend keep winter clothes with you, and always catch a govt bus, just dont go in private bus .. howmuch ever they persuade you..

You can either go for HRTC buses or HPTDC buses.

Guys,
I am done with my Manali trip. It was great!
Wanted to share some information I got relevant to this thread:

Manali to Shimla Bus trip:
There are no HPTDC buses, but there are 5 HRTC buses.
2 Ordinary Buses in morning (i think 7:15am and 9:15 am, not too sure about the dep time) and 2 Ordinary buses in the evening (again bet 7pm to 9 pm, please confirm exact dep time).
Fare = 210/- per person

1 Delux bus at 9:30pm in the night. This has better seats but the seats are NOT pushbacks.
fare = 270/-

All buses are non a/c and travelling time is approx 10 hrs.

This is all the info I got regarding travel from Manali to Shimla by bus. I dind't take this travel personally due to lack of time.

There are private bus options as well, but i dind't research them.
