Shimla or Kangra, that is the question....

I'm going to spend a week in Himachal Pradesh next mid-august. As I've never been there, I wonder if anyone can give me some advices...
- I am interested both in short treks (1 day) and in visiting historical heritage so I'm very doubtful if to choose the Kangra area (Masrur, Kangra, Dharamsala and McLeod Ganj and maybe a one day excursion to Triund) or the Shimla area (Shimla, Narkanda, Sarahan, Sutlej valley), also considering that the road condition won't be so good and there will probably be fog and cloudy sky if not showers of rain.
- anybody has climbed to Triund from McLeod Ganj? is a guide compulsory? if yes where can i find one?
thanks in advance....

Mcleodganj to Triund is an easy trek, around four to six hours depending on your speed. No guide required. Easy trail, and you will meet other people on the trail.

Shimla is ok but nothing special, Sutlej Valley is worth a journey there: in Sarahan expect rain, maybe better weather in Sangla Valley and Kalpa. Kalpa was my favourite place of my last august trip in Kinnaur...
Have a look at my pics on the web address shown below. It's only in italian language but something suggest me you can go through it easily

Shimla is now really over-developed and built up.
