For hotels in Shimla and Manali check the hotel listings on top of the page. Also use the search box to find more information about places to see in Shimla and Manali. Once you short list the hotels and places post to ask more specific questions.
Manali to Amritsar will be around 17 hours by bus.

niskh - in my opinion, two days each is a bit tight, since you will also spend a lot of time traveling.
In Manali, there are lot of hotels on the road just outside the bus stand..Bargain hard, since this is not the travel season yet, and you can get something for 500-750 easily. HPTDC hotels are also very good, though slightly on the expensive side.
The roads in this area are extremely circuitous and continuously winding and twisting...If you are prone to motion sickness, i suggest you carry some medicine. I used Avomine (about an hour before the journey) and found it very helpful, although it tends to make you slighly sleepy, and you may miss out on some scenery..However, i didnt have motion sickeness even once, and i thought that was a fair compromise for the missed scenery. Please note that THIS IS NOT MEDICAL ADVICE!
Also, try to not eat anything two-three hours prior to the start, as well as only non-oily snacks (like glucose biscuits) during the journey and you should be okay. I speak from experience
Once you reach your destination, you can gorge on hot spicy food if you are feeling left out during the journey.

i have changed my plan ...won't go to shimla instead will atek flight from delhi to kulu and will stay in manali for 3D n 4N .
have read lot about manali hotels .. and had come down to upadhaya cottage or hotel beas or Apple View guesthouse but still not sure which one will worth staying.
Do you have any idea of other hotel ... or can suggest one from above??

@nishk - the new plan sounds much better now
There are two parts in manali - old manali and new manali.the bus stand, shops are all at new manali, and old manali is about 2 km from here..It is more calm and secluded, but away from shops/hotels. I am not sure if commuting between the two may be problematic, espcially at night with parents. I think apple view gh is in old manali.
I stayed at Hotel Ibex, just off the bus stand, no special views, but comfortable and centrally located, which is what i wanted. They even gave me a couple of free prints for my e-ticket!
Depending on your budget, a safer option may be to book any HPTDC hotel for the first day that you are reaching there. Once you are there, you can explore around and shift if you like. This is what i usually do at a new place (book govt hotel for the first day and then explore) and i have always found it to be a good idea!
Read the following for HPTDC hotel reviews:
Which HPTDC hotel to choose for staying at Manali?
Hope this helps!

There are 2 unreserved passenger trains between Joginder Nagar and Pathankot http://erail.in?T=JDNX::PTK: Then from Pathankot another bus to Amritsar.

I'm planning on traveling from Manali to Amritsar this summer. I think this seems better than the 17-hour bus. But, could someone tell me how one gets to joginder nagar from Manali? Thanks in advance.
