When r u planning to go ?
If Nov or Dec, its going to be very cold. Moreover you won't be allowed to visit Keylong as Rohtang would be closed then or may be its closed even now... Rest is fine... Gompas in Manali ??? Why not Mcloadganj??? |

Just got back from Manali and Keylang last week. If u want to go, better go to Keylang first and leave the 3-4 days in Manali for later - one never knows when the pass closes, and if u are on the wrong side then, u will quite literally have to walk up and down the mountain to get back to the other side. And some of the hotels in Keylang will be closing soon.
Keylang is a cute little village (or big one actually), a tightly packed bazar, not much to see though. I'm not much of a monastery person, unless it's on my route or there's something extra-special, so didn't check them out. In any case mine was more of an exploratory trip. Khardang and Shashur gompas are nearby and can be reached without much difficulty. Khardang is also visible across the valley from Keylang. Tupchiling and Guru Ghantal gompas can be approached from the petrol pump at Tandi Bridge, but only infrequent jeeps go up. The road goes past Tupchiling, but I was told GG can only be approached by foot, straight uphill from Tupchi. All these monasteries are quite small in size, compared to the bigger ones to be seen elsewhere. Last edited by Dilliwala : Oct 18th, 2007 at 02:36. |
