Shimla & Manali in OCT, Need Info??

Hi All,

We are planning to visit shimla and manali this oct, we are a group of 6 guys. we have our train tickets booked. Heres a brief description.
We will arrive at kalka on oct 9th and board the toy train early in the morning and reach shimla at 11:00 pm in the afternoon.

Up till here its planned, from here we do not have any accomodation booked and are planning to look for it when we get there. Is it very difficult to get acccomodation at that time??

Also wanna cover kullu and manali so can anybody suggest me about how to go about from shimla to manali and info abt transport and accomodation. I am looking for some budget hotels ranging from 6-700 RS p/n with an extra bed.Is it possible to get rooms in this range??

And also which is more enjoyable,
--A bus from shimla to manali or
---hire a qualis from shimla to manali (pls tell me the cost)

Also can anyone give me info abt some adventure sports in october in manali???

The YMCA (not ywca) behind the ritz cinema is good they charge around 300rs,
but there are always lots of touts waiting to escort you up the very long very steep hill to a place of their choice. If you want to avoid this leave the train station via the ticket office exit, once you are up on the main road you will see the taxi booking office on the other side, take a cab from here to the lift which brings you out three quarters of the way up the mall.
