Lightbulb Setting up a Guest House/Lounge in Himachal ?

Hi members,

This idea struck me 3 days ago, but Indiamike was under maintenance.

I want to set up a Beautiful Guest House or Cottage in remote village, with 3 to 4 rooms, some where in Deep Himachal Pradesh, in foot of snow capped mountains. I am particularly interested in Baspa Valley or Pin Parbati Valley.

I am not aware if Non-Himachal residents can own land in Himachal Pradesh. Also what are conditions for starting a Guest House?

Pls. express your views and suggestions.

Thanks

MK

I looked into this when in Musoorie. Can't remember the details, but there are some estate agents there who will be pleased to help you.

I am also fed up with my daily routine. 9 to 8 working in populated city. No time to relax. And above all no space to take a walk, i am getting round in shape, a small gut is also appearing, i need long walks in fresh air. I need fresh mountain air, cool weather and peace of mind.

Written above is only one aspect of living. Other aspect is earning for living. And all of you must agree that tourism industry is going to boom in India. So that's the reason i am planning for a decent but small business.

Shimla pls suggest a location for me in Himachal, as u are settled in Himachal.

Thanks

THINK and PLAN carefully !

mk26in
There is lot of difference in 'imagening' about life in mountain and actual living in there. You have to be comiited because slowly slwoly 'other dimensions' of mountain living comes to reality.

I think LINK posted by navin is very good-contact them stay for a month..on your own and then invets money. This will be best idea...

May be I could follow you soon !!

Hi ppl,

I was similarly thinking about Leh.. was wanting to buy a house down there..nothing major. I am under the impression that a non-Kashmiri can not own land there.. is it right? Any inputs

Cheers

mk26in,

I haven't settled in Himachal. Its just that I love Himachal very much. If you've seen the link I gave in my first post on this thread, you'll notice that the H.P. govt. encourages the setting up of tourist facilities in tribal areas. You may have something to work on here.

I suggest you write to the Department of Tourism, Govt. of Himachal Pradesh, with reference to the investment opportunities mentioned on their website. They'll help you.

Hey,

Ur idea is a nice one but maybe not a practical one .. Firstly buying land in rural HP is a problem unless u are a resident here !! U cud get land in the lower parts of HP or maybe lease out a Guest House and operate that ....

Mid next year my Home in the clouds will be open to the general public and that too without any advertising excepy word of mouth --- U guys can expect discounts --- lol !!

Cheers
