Secluded/Affordable Hotels in Shimla?
Hi Guys
Can someone please provide with the details of some secluded yet affordable hotels in Shimla? I hate hustle and bustle and the area should be quiet and peaceful. Like the one we have in Manali "Apple Guest House". And please make sure that it has safe car parking. I am planning a weekend getaway (In my First car - Daewoo Matiz) from Chandigarh and ideas 'n views abt other places in northern region are also welcome. I love to take the roads less or not at all travelled before to roam around. Please give details for the same. If anyone needs help with anything Dehradun/Mussoorie/Chakrata region I'll be glad to assist you with the cheapest yet awesome places to hang out. I lived there for 6 yrs. Thank you for your Help. Suggest something that would make me fall in love with Shimla contrary to what I hv heard abt its crowded Malls and Bazaars. |

I don't know what to tell you, since most of the enjoyable part of Shimla is on the pedestrian mall--I didn't see any hotels that seemed to have car parking. I stayed at the Hotel Dalziel, which was pleasant, friendly, 400INR/night in early September, not exactly secluded but nothing like the places I'd stayed in Delhi/Kolkata/Varanasi.
I wouldn't call Shimla "crowded" so much as "bustling." There are constantly people walking the mall, enjoying the scenery and an ice cream, greeting friends, etc. Once you get away from the train station, Shimla is almost tout-free. People are exceptionally friendly there, and that's a major part of the charm. If you're looking to get away from all people, friendly or not, Shimla may not be the best place to do it. Good luck! Thanks Shimla,
Is that one train non stop or toy train too? Do you know how many hours for the trip. I was reading the other threads about narrow roads in that part of the world, the thread scared me, are there scary roads to Dharamsala? Larki55 |

larki55,
The overnight train from Delhi to Pathankot/Chakki is one single journey, on broad gauge. From Pathankot its an approx. 3 hr. ride by taxi to Dharamsala. You will encounter narrow roads during your journey, but the breathtaking scenery of Kangra will banish all your fears! Don't worry, its quite safe and I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself !! |
