sangla tour
hi karan,
you have not supplied many information that you need to factor in while planning a trip- like your age and health factors, your group size and constitution, your interest(looking to rough it out or just taking it easy),the means of transport(own/taxi or public transport) and budget(low to medium end or willing to spend freely) and your previous experience in remote areas. it is not every day that you get to go to sangla or any other place remotely located. so i shall take the liberty to advise you to have your fundas clear and have a great time out there. you are not going to regret it. regards. |

Hi! If you travel by car, like I suppose, the first or last night you should stop in Sarahan and visit the temple there. For the rest Rakcham and Chitkul are the nicest places to stay in the Baspa valley, vist Sangla to see Kamru fort.

here is your itinerary:
day 1-reach sarahan, enjoy the views and the temple, you can also go for short treks if you want. day 2- leave early morning and reach kalpa by 11-12 enjoy the breathtaking view and the village. day 3-after watching the sunrise on kinner kailash leave for sangla and reach there in 2 hours enjoy the village, old tamples, the view or simply laze besides the river. day 4- leave for chitkul early in the morning stop for sometime at rakcham a very scenic village and then enjoy chitkul for the rest of the day. day 5- go for a single day trek around sangla. make sure that night stay is around sangla as the place has more facilities than chitkul. |

Sangla to Chitkul is easy road and my rough estimation is that it not more than 15-17 kms.
You can find good guest houses or even tented accommodation at both SANGLA and near CHITKUL. Sarahan to Kalpa seems bit long but I think can be done...I usually travel Chandigarh to Narkanda and then next day I drive early for Recong Peo/Kalpa. Scene from Kalpa is no doubt great but my heart lies in CHITKUL !! |

sangla
hi there
i shall be brief in putting down whatever info i have; sangla- heart of baspa valley.good for base accomodation.bering nag temple worth a visit.safforn farms just north of sangla(the other ones you can find are at pampore, kashmir)trout fish farm and fishing spots are there.phulech flower festival celeberated in sept. a full day trek to sangla "kanda"(meadows) is worthwhile. multi storeyed kamru fort is a pleasant 2km walk through apple orchards. batseri village-take a slight diversion on the road to rakcham. rakcham village- has its own dialect not understood by people of neighbouring villages.the village was burnt down in 2002 but is now up again. chitkul- a picture postcard perfect setting.last village of baspa valley.walk to nagasthi(4km).it is the last indian border outpost manned by I.T.B.P. accomodation at chitkul can best be described as very basic. try your luck at govt resthouses.or ,if it suits you, can book banjara camp. take a good pair of walking shoes.i will not recommend brand new ones.take one pair that you are used to. take a sun cap and a good sunscreen.and yes do carry a small pocket torch.you never know when you will need it.and try laying your hand on a swiss army knife.it serves multiple functions. take care. |

chitkul is the best place to stay in your route .. of course these are my views and other may have different opinon .. as you have seen from the above post .. you have 4 places where you can spend the night
saharan kalpa chitkul rackcham although chitkul and rackcham are near to each other .. but they give you different feeling .. and in my opinin you should spend a day each at chitkul and rackcham .. chitkul has thakur guest houes with decent accomodation and good kitchen .. ph no 01786244275 .. book it in advance, other option would be pwd guest houes .. both in range of 300 per day. do plan to stay at saharan on the way, it is situated perfectly .. and stay at bheemakali mandir only .. they have some , 8 10 rooms .. and not any other guest houes. .. from here you will start seeing the kinnar kailash range .. i dont see any point in staying in sangla .. when you can go to rackcham and chitkul in about an hour, hour and a half .. from there .. others can comment .. |

Neded help on : 1. is the resort worth it- They charge Rs 4500 per night 2. Can we rive down from Delhi ( Ive a Ford fiesta- have driven upto Simlaand Chail before, but am not exactly a hill driver. How long will it take. 3. is it ok with a 4 yr kid 4. If i hire a car from Chadigarh for the duration of the trip, whta would it cost. |

Hi! I checked a couple of the Banjara's establishments and in my opinion they are grossly overpriced, really not worth the money. In Sangla valley they used to have luxury tents:I would not even think of paying that kind of money to sleep under a piece of cloth.
