It should be cool . . . chitkul might be snowed in, but I doubt you'll meet snow in the Satluj valley . . . as for hotels, something is bound to be open though I'm not sure!!

Rare chance of snow. Chitkul might have it, not sure.
Normally it starts snowing in January. Rest houses would be open till Sangla. No idea about Chitkul. |

great to have these information.
i need two more opinion. Should i book the hotels earlier or it'll be available during that time ? Can you please give me any idea about the car rental for a scorpio/bolero throughout the trip ? Though i prefer to book but in this case i'm confused whether i can cover the whole route or not. |

As its will be off season, hotels would be easily available. Scorpio from Shimla will charge you around 1600-1800 per day.

Kalpa is better option for two nights stay. We had a maruti Alto and cost was about Rs.1200/-per day.For three members Alto is ok. |

)2. For two nights, Kalpa is a better bet. The second day you can take a walk to Chakha pastures - ask your hotel people or locals for details. You can also google beforehand! (BTW, you can see day 5 details here : http://www.himachaltravelblog.com/20...aur-and-spiti/)

i've made contact some agencies through net...but they 've charged Rs. 2300-2500 / day for a scorpio/travera...but it's beyond my budget.. i think booking rate on spot from shimla(Rs. 1800-2000/day) would be less than this.. i'm also waiting for sriprakash reply.

One of my associates came back from a Shimla-Kinnaur tour during early-Oct'09. They could manage a Scorpio @ 2100/- per day. Oct being the Puja season and generally peak travelling time, we should expect the rate to come down about 1800 ranges around end-Nov, not sure if that's practical.
Sriprakash is not active for about 10 days on IM now, may be on some trip. @Sriprakash, could you update us on the queries we have once you're available? |

BDC,
We are planning to stay in Hotel White in Shimla (Nov 4th wk), because I don't want to take long walks to the Mall/ridge with my 1.5 yr old kid on lap. I understand that this hotel doesn't run a full-fledged kitchen - just enough for Tea/coffee and b/fasts (Paratha etc). However, it is right beside Lakkar Bazar, so food shouldn't be a problem. And we're staying for just 2 nights. I also understand that their general tariff is about 1200/-, but it should come down fairly during that time. 1st wk of Dec (when you travel) would still be off-season, so you might want to call them and see? Visit www.hotelwhiteshimla.com for contact details (no tariff published - because I guess they would allow you to bargain ). We're supposed to look for a "view" room while finalizing the booking. Are you planning to travel with a kid and/or in some rough terrains (our case)? Otherwise for 2 you shouldn't need an SUV, right? Just curious! EDIT: Hotel White is supposed to be reached by a long staircase it seems, so may not be a good idea if you have any aged person in your team. The above what I said is all hear-say for me, but first hand from a person in this forum whose opinion I trust. The call is yours !Last edited by indracal : Oct 19th, 2009 at 02:12. |

My itinerary is here in this post: Shimla-Narkanda-Sarahan-Chail - Nov/Dec 2009
However, what it doesn't show is that I have a plan to stay in Chandigarh for 2 days and Delhi as well, and I'm returning on 6th Dec to Kolkata. So, I don't think I'll be posting the trip log before the next weekend. |
