Abraxus, I look forward to your travelogue. Found some stuff on google, but you're probably looking for firsthand knowledge. Best of luck. It sounds like a wonderful place. Peace

Here it is:
http://www.iitb.ernet.in/~wildlife/a...mbss/ghnp.html What I gave you, was the Google Image Search results for Sainj Valley. You just had to click on any thumbnail and you would have gotten the original page where the picture is located, then click on the "remove frame" link and "voila". A tip: when you move the cursor over an image and the little arrow transforms itself into a little hand with a pointing finger, that means that the image is also a link (YES you have to explore a page! ). And the links for the pages where the images reside were also given in plain text under the thumbnails on the Google page. The reason why I didn't give the page about Sainj valley in the first place, was that I wanted to suggest the use of Google Image Search as a great resource. http://www.google.com/imghp?hl=en (Notice that you can click on the tabs "Web", "Images", "Groups" and "Directory" on the google search page.)

ivan- thanks again man. sorry if i appear to be dense, but your original address took me to a search for safes & other stuff that i could not see anything to do w/sainj valley. on a search ov google image bank using the words "sainj"& "valley" i found 0.
thanks for the link, though i've actually seen it before. i think there are 3 reports from student bodies on the net. which can be found by a search ov khoj or rediff. the thing is, i want to know what the place is like for the average holydaymaker, rather than a prepared indian trekking group, ie- is there anywhere to stay otherthan camping or govt. resthouses(which in my expeerience are not open to westerners, whatever the rules say)? |

Great Himalan National Park
Hello Abraxus
Haven't been there myself but iv'e heard a lot about the area from Indian naturalists. Sounds a great place and gets very few foreign visitors. You will find a lot more info if you type Great Himalayan National Park into google search. A good site is the park site itself although the price info looks a bit out of date. http://www.geocities.com/adityamann Not sure about how easy it is for a foreigner to visit. The booking system for visiting National Parks in India outside of the more popular ones is pretty complicated. I found this despite carrying an English Nature wardens ID card. On the other hand if you meet the right person then suddenly all doors open. I think it's worth contacting the Park Director at Shamshi (Kullu). They have about 15 patrolling huts inside the park and also forest resthouses at Aut, Sainj and Shangarh. If you do make it I look forward to reading your travelogue. Just an afterthought. When do you plan to visit? Most National Parks are closed to visitors during the summer breeding season. |

hmmm, weird?
I tried the Google search results link on a few different PCs and they all lead me to the right page. Could you (or anyone else) try it again and see if it gets you there now?
http://images.google.com/images?q=Sa...e=off&filter=0 This is not important in itself but I'm just interested if I can give such Google search results as links, or is it not working in some places on the internet. |

The internet is a strange place and strange things happen. A lot stranger things have happened to me than just getting the wrong page after clicking a link.
