Sach Pass Road

Is the Traila - Killar road via Sach Pass now motorable?
If yes, how wide is it?

Its debatable... some IMer has gone on bike only. Have seen a pic posted ... it was in winter with lotsa snow.

Its jeepable and some say that it is 4WD-rive-able.

Rumours of a bus service have made the rounds... no confirmed news.

It can only be attempted on a Jeep. That to when there is no snow on the Road (i.e July/Aug /Sep). Road Still is Narrow Upto Udaipur (Lahul ValleY), Goes Along the Chandrabagha River.

I think that the road is motorable as there is a bus route from Chamba to Killar but the pass is not open till date. On 22nd, I inquired it from Chamba Bus stand and they said that buses will start plying when Pass opens and that is likely to happen in first week of July.

Thanks for the Valuable Input.
But i Still Dont Inderstand Y they Dont Open the Pass early as it Holds Strategic Advantage for the Army. It reduces the Disatnce to leh from Pathankot by approx 300 kms

Hi all

Im heading to Leh via Sach Pass.

The plan is to leave Delhi on the 23rd of August and hit Dalhousie by day end.
Next day's plan will be to cover Sach pass and take a halt enroute Keylong.

Whats the distance from Dalhousie to Sach Pass. I understand Keylong is another 180odd km from Sach Pass and hence need to know the distance from Dalhousie to Sach Pass to make my plan

PS: i will riding a Bike. If anyone is interested, or around this area at that time, lemme know at bunnypunia(at)gmail(dot)com

I plan to hit Leh by 26th August

DISTANCE from Dalhousie to Sach Pass

I have a Himachal Pradesh map from the Govt Tourist office.

Extracts from that map... (1st col is km, next is places)

22 Dalhousie to Khajjiar
17 Khajjiar to Chamba
23 CH to Masrund
16 Mas to Tikri Khas
16 TK to Tissa
42 Tissa to Traila
...... (Map road ends here, now trek-trail markings)
18 Traila to Satraundi (estimated)
20 Satraundi to Sach Pass (est.)
----
174 kms TOTAL ESTIMATED DISTANCE Dalhousie to Sach Pass

Happy Biking....

I am tempted to take up your offer, to bike it across

23rd : Delhi-Dalhousie
24th : Dalhousie-Sach Pass and beyond
Dalhousie to Sach Pass is around 174km - 6 to 7 hours riding. I m still trying to get details for night stop after Sach Pass
25th : Night stop to Jispa (21km from Keylong)
26th : Jispa to Leh (344km - 10-11hours)
27th : Leh (get permits, see around)
28th : Leh-Ktop. I was thinking, we could be back in Leh by around 12 noon from Ktop. Why not leave for Pangong Tso and stay the night there?
29th : Pangong-Sarchu
30th : Sarchu-Manali
31st : Manali-Delhi

This is the tentative plan

Leh riders : Inputs will be more than appreciated

Killar can be a ideal spot for Night Halt. Also a Fellow India Miker "anshuzsnowy7" had posted in some other thread in case one is Coming from Pathankot to Sach pass, need not go to Chamba , So u can explore that option as well.

Rest UR trip Sounds Gr8
Happy Biking !!

Thanks Balvar : whats the distance between Sach Pass and Killar?
Also, i dont have much info on the Pathankot-Sach Pass route. Is it smaller to do Delhi-Pathankot-Sach Pass or Delhi-Dalhousie-Sach Pass?
